It took me several days, and with lots of help from several members of this forum, but I completed my “teapot” project using Onshape for the first time. It was a struggle as this software is much different than Unigraphics (NX). But, I’m starting to like it!
BTW-The top lid is a separate part.
The teapot was hollowed at 2.5mm. I and split it in half in Bambu Studio. Each half section is about 211x119x50 (xyz, mm). Side A is placed off the plate. Side B sliced very well and using a 0.4mm hotend tip and will take over 10 hours without editing the default settings. I have three questions so please refer to my photos.
Here are the first two questions.

That white line is the seam where the head starts and stops each layer, its for reference, not color. When you slice, you will only see the two colors, so you can just ignore that. As for the trees, I have not had issues with the supports not coming off, it does leave some rough edges, but other wise comes off cleanly, and the last, I would like to know myself as I have a couple prints that I would like that to be finer looking.
the line of white dots is the “Seam” marker in the preview visualizer. You can toggle on/off.
That first picture topleft - The way those layers are stacking usually bugs me - Try toggling quality → walls → “only one wall on top surfaces”
2b) You can use “Variable layer height” to also make that stairstepping less obvious, check the wiki for full docs as it has a lot of nuance
I love trees! You can have an even better “snaps off easily” experience with a couple settings. This increases filament usage by a couple % but it is worth it (IMO)
I didnt mention it but for completeness’s sake, in that screenshot the Top Z distance was .12, but I recommend putting that == to your layer height, whatever you happen to be printing in.
The lower you take that number below the layer height, the more fused the support will be to the model. For some filaments this becomes a large problem
The key settings I like are the interface layers and size. It turns the interface into a SOLID chunk that rips off well because it is so well adhered to itself that you can just rip at it with pliers like an animal. You can see this in preview of just how different these supports are: (I have toggled off the support body, and am just showing the interface - we are looking UP at a model with some buttcheeks hanging out lol)
I think I see another issue. Only the last layer had the black lettering. I know black covers lighter colors very will but I think one layer isn’t enough. I need to learn painting better.
I used PAINT / FILL / EDGE DETECTION / Smart fill angle 90.00.
Suggestions?
The Default Layer height was 0.08mm. Are you suggesting to changing setting for Top Z distance from .12 to .08mm? And this is for the tree supports, right?
I’ll pass on recommending specifics there, haha, I don’t print on 0.08 much. But I find that when I print on 0.12 and use 0.12 support z distance, it is well supported and at the borderline of what I’d consider “not fused to the model”. There’s probably some lower bound.
