Trying to make a test print using support material. I basically have a small upside down box. I can’t get it to generate any support inside the box. Wants to bridge apparently. I do not have “don’t support bridges” checked. How can I force it?
On my real part (vs this test object) I need a small precise recess area in the face layer where I place high quality labels on a commercial product. I want a support layer of the support material (different material), so the surface finish of the bottom of that “box” is as smooth as it can be. If I let the slicer have it’s (automatic) way, it will bridge that area and it will not create a flat nor clean bottom of that box, and so my label surface will be poor and not recessed as needed. I’m just waiting to know if there are any settings I missed that would have it automatically place the support where it is needed, in my use case. Just because the slicer things it “can” make that bridge, does not mean it will result in the best quality span surface.
So far I gave up on automatic generation. If I set to manual and paint I can get them to generate. Would be good to know how to make it automatic. I will have more complex models that will be tedious to paint supports.
Edit: Very shallow recesses might not have room for support and interface layers. In that case, no supports will be generated. Try making the recess deeper by a layer height or two.
Thank you. I tried making it deeper by a lot and made no difference. Manually forcing them and it printed the FWIW. Re bridge length I have an H2D I don’t remember seeing that as an option in studio Checking, will report back ….

I see now that Max bridge length is only available with Tree support and even then is ignored if the recess is too shallow.
With Normal (default) supports , and 0.16mm Process settings (initial layer .20 mm, layer height 0.16 mm) I needed to make the recess 0.68mm deep before any support would be generated, so at least four layers deep.
With Tree supports, the Style also makes a difference in minimum recess size, so try slicing with different options before changing your model.

The prime tower is enabled by default but will only be generated on the build plate for multi-color printing tasks or when smooth mode time-lapse is selected. You can enable or disable it in Process —— Other —— Prime tower.

Thanks. This isn’t “multi-color” but it is “Multi-material” which to the printer is the same thing I suppose. Using different support material. So I think it has to have the tower, but I may try unchecking it for fun see what happens. Anyway, I don’t think it will affect what supports get auto-generated, but maybe, who knows.
Use a measuring tool in slicer/cad on that shallow recess
How many mm?
How deep this is changes how you can attack it, if it’s below the minimum height you’d need for the slicer to stick support structures in there [usually 3 layers], you will need to consider doing it manually with a literal Add part → cube and finetuning the sizing
Strange, thats a heck of a long bridge for it to want to make without support.
If you use one of bambu’s off-the-shelf print profiles, change nothing other than “enable support”, does it get it or not? In the slicer preview, is the line type an overhang wall, a bridge, or an internal bridge?
You could always try a support enforcer (manual) to add them yourself ,if changing support type to ? (best suited for mm interface ?) doesnt help, you can also have a play about with different support types/settings ,its not going to hurt anything
I get the same results in Studio 2.2.0.85 with the H2D profiles. Supports are generated for recesses greater than Initial Layer Height + 2 Layer Heights, using all support types except Tree Organic.
