I had the exact same issue. It turned out to be the linear bearing — it was making noise while moving.
Unfortunately, fully lubricating it never actually solved the problem.
Visually the rail looks fine, and as far as I understand, having play equivalent to one ball is considered normal. It doesn’t interfere with the printer’s operation — at least not yet.
I managed to find out that the MGN12C carriage is a suitable replacement (you should avoid cheap low-precision versions).
To get partial access to the balls in the carriage, you can remove the X-axis cover (the one where the purge wiper is located) and slide the carriage all the way to the end. Then the balls will protrude 3–4 mm beyond the rail, and you can lubricate them directly with a syringe — without removing the print head.
