Noise, possibly from the y-axis movements

Hi all,

I’m new to the community and BBL A1 printer.

I bought the printer a few weeks ago and it has about 120 hours so far.

In the last day or so it started making some odd noises:

  1. almost like a metal wheel that’s not been oiled, likely from the y-axis. It seems to happen especially when the base plate travels towards the back end.
  2. a tik-tak from the printing head, it seem to be coming from the lower part of the head.

I’ve shared two short videos here that showcase the noises in question.

Anyone that can suggest what those could be caused by and solutions?

I’ve oiled the x and y axis a few days ago and and cleaned the rails as per the BBL maintenance guidelines. So I would exclude it’s lack of lubrication.

Nothing sounds like it is breaking.

Does this happen if you print a small test cube?

The reason I ask is what you are printing affects the travel and retraction, which combine to make different noises that may be unfamiliar to you if you do not print widely different models.

I am only guessing here, but is the size and hexagon shaped pattern a new print, or at least the first time you observed it? Both factors can introduce issues.

You only normally need to lubricate when prompted by the A series screen, unless you are in an area affected by other particulates that fall on the printer, but unrelated to it.

I printed 7 of these in the last week, these noises started in the last day or so. It’s about 3-4 hours each print.

The tik-tak noise especially, is quite clear and new to me
