Noob: Why does model vanish?

This is my first try at 3D printing. I have an A1-mini. To play around with Bambu Studio (2.7.1.62), I loaded the Bambu scraper .3mf file to play with. I saw that there were two filaments shown, white for the main scraper, and black for the logo. I only have one color, so I thought I would tweak the project to use one filament. I tried changing the 2nd filament setting and, to my surprise, it always resulted in the entire model disappearing. I tried:

  • Select white for filament 2.
  • Delete filament 2.
  • Merge 2 with filament 1.
  • Synchronize filament list (with A1-mini).

Can anyone help me understand how these settings work? Why did the model completely disappear?

Have you tried printing the entire model one color instead?

Maybe you could upload the 3D model, the 3MF file, directly to the forum; it’s a bit difficult to evaluate without it. Possible causes:

  • The model is plain and simply defective
  • The model has shifted off the print plate
  • The grouping is incorrect
  • The font / logo is so small that the slicer can’t process it.

As I said, for a thorough analysis, we would need the 3MF files. Photos would be a good place to start.

Take a close look to see if there’s a red ! next to your object, and if necessary, click “Fix Object.”

That’s what they are trying to do. “I only have one color, so I thought I would tweak the project to use one filament.”

I only use Orca Slicer, so I don’t know why Bambu Slicer wouldn’t just slice with 1 filament, seeing as they are similar slicers.

@user_1991093284 Are you changing the colour of the filament in the Objects tab or are you doing it withing the Filaments area?

I printed the file without changing it and it worked; it just replaced the second color with the one color I had. The purpose of this question is to understand why these setting behave the way they do. I will be designing and printing my own models, and it would be nice to understand how all of the software works.

Scraper Grip by Bambu Lab.gcode.3mf (508.7 KB)

Model attached. It’s just the one that comes on the Bambu A1-mini SD card.

I don’t get a list of objects, just “Plate 1” and “Outside” with nothing inside them. I also can’t click anything in the preview window.

So the first thing I notice is that the file is copy-protected: You can’t save it. That’s why the object disappears as soon as you make a change.

Why? Because that’s probably just the G-code and not the complete 3MF file. That’s why the file is named .gcode.3mf and not just .3mf

The problem is basically this: You copied the finished g-code from the SD card, but you want to make changes to the project, so you need the complete project.

Download the complete project = problem solved. :+1:

Ah ha! Lesson learned. Thank you.
