Nozzle Scratching Bambu Textured PEI Plate During Initial Measurement
- Detailed description of the problem
- I recently returned to FDM printing after a period of using resin/SLA. I prepared my printer as usual—performed calibrations, removed leftover filament, etc.—and started a solid print.
Shortly after starting, I heard a scratching noise and discovered that the nozzle had dug diagonally into the surface of my PEI Plate during the initial measuring phase. I have tried reassembling parts, cleaning, performing a factory reset, and recalibrating, but the issue consistently occurs at the same spot and the same time. I have attached a few pictures showing the scratch.
My Questions are:
- What could have caused the nozzle to scratch the plate?
- How can I fix the damage and restore the print surface?
- and how can I prevent this issue from occurring in future prints?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated, especially from users who have experienced a similar issue.
- Printer model used
- P1P upgraded with Enclosure Kit, using a 0.2mm nozzle
- Slicer settings used
- 0.10mm standard @ BBL X1C 0.2 nozzle, unmodified, no supports (model was simple)
- Type of filament used
- PLA Basic, but I guess this is irrelevant?

- Initially, I installed the build plate in the wrong orientation after washing it—it was rotated 90 degrees. I have since corrected the orientation, but the problem was still there.
- I ensured the Z-axis sliders are properly synchronized by lowering the build plate all the way down, and checking that the bed is level.
- I attempted partial disassembly to investigate, but was unsure what exactly to look for.
- Cleaned the nozzle because why not.
- I followed the Bambu Lab Manual Bed Leveling / Manual Bed Tramming guide. This resulted in very slight improvement—the scratches became very, very slightly shallower (or maybe not even), but increased in numbers. That was the best I’ve gotten after half a day on this method.
