Nozzle touching during printing and breaking print

Hi, I’m trying to print something that comes with its own supports in the model design but parts of it keep breaking off during printing. The nozzle touches the print and since there are parts that are temporally weak during the print, they break. I will provide some images to better explain what I mean.


I’ve had the same issue on other models with similar geometry too. And the same issue on a completely different printer, non-bambu.

Are there any settings that could help avoid this happening?

Miniatures, especially those designed with SLA and similar processes in mind, are tricky on modern bedslingers. But not impossible.

Things to watch out for are usually:

  • Accelerations/jerk exciting flimsy structures: go slow
  • Thermal effects in low layer time areas: Print multiple copies at the same time or use a smooth tumelapse to enforce a prime tower
  • Curling: Use freshly dried filament and adaptive layer height (reduces curling on critical overhangs).
  • Supports: That is a bit of trial and error (for me) using mainly painted supports or a mixture if pre-defined supports and newly created ones. SLA supports are designed to support a model hanging from them whereas FDM usually has models sitting on top of supports. So stability is a bigger problem (see curling).
  • Quality: Make sure the filament is not only dry, but also calibrated well for flow and PA.
  • Qzality extra hint: You can go even lower with the layer height by adjusting the setting in the printers settings. 0.04 are easily possible on an X1, but beware low flow (<0.02mm³/s) conditions.
