ObXidian 500 vs. Bambu HF nozzles

Hello all,

I got a E3D ObXidian 500 .4mm HF nozzle recently, and now I have mismatched nozzles - one regular flow, one high flow. I’d like to get another, but the second one won’t see anything harder than unfilled filaments. Is there any flow rate difference between the ObXidian 500 and the Bambu HF nozzles? I asked E3D and was directed toward the chart here: Bambu Lab Support: H2 High Flow ObXiDian 500 HotEnd – E3D but that calls out the standard-flow nozzles. Too much ambiguity for me. Anyone actually tested these nozzles head-to-head? I only have Bambu HF in .6mm, so I can’t do it.

Oh, also E3D confirmed they have no plans to make a .2mm or .8mm nozzle, if anyone was wondering.

By comparing the Bambu store they claim:

  • PLA Basic
    • SF: 24 mm3/s
    • HF: 40 mm3/s

While E3D claims:

  • PLA Basic
    • Bambu SF: 30 mm3/s
    • Obxidian HF: 35 mm3/s

Using this number I would say use a Bambu HF.

E3D claims 65 mm3/s while using PETG HF while Bambu only claims 32 mm3/s for PETG HF.

However for E3D it’s a bit strange. If you look at their profiles, the PLA Basic profile requires 1.2h while the PETG profile requires 1.2h as well. So I would guess they will never do the 65 and it may be typo and it should be 35 mm3/s.

Considering the price I would go with Bambu HF.

And in case you like it a bit more wear resistant, you would still have the option to go for the Bambu Wolfram HF, which is still much cheaper than Obxidian. (At least in Germany)

Could you please link to the Bambu page you got those numbers from? I cannot find it under the nozzle nor filament listings. I suspect you’re right and the nozzles are about the same in speed. Only one thing to do: Buy a Bambu .4mm and test it against the E3D. For science:)
