I’ve been printing nearly constantly with my P1S since I got it around July of last year with next to no problems. Then, about two weeks ago, Studio stopped showing drop-downs in the Prepare screen. For example, after loading an STL, if I select the model, then click “paint” in the top menu, the box with paint options doesn’t appear. A small keyboard icon shows up instead.(See above picture) This happens with all the tools in prepare. Additionally, the cube in the bottom left to rotate views is gone, the progress when slicing, and the info box after slicing is gone!
To try to remedy the situation I’ve restarted everything, signed in/out of everything, uninstalled/reinstalled Studio (both clean and saving user info), updated the software to the latest version yesterday, and tried various versions until one worked! It was 1.10.-something……the last version before 2 was released! I thought the problem was solved……and then I tried to print. The printer hangs at heating the bed until I get a “failed to get AMS mapping table” error every time. So I decided to update back to the latest version just to be able to print again, although I couldn’t modify anything in the prepare screen.
Now after updating to 2.5, I get “toolhead cover fell off” in exactly the same two spots during bed leveling, every print. The cover never did fall off, but removing it, putting it back, and clicking resume eventually gets it to print.
The computer is an old HP DV7 laptop, but the issue began after some normal use with Studio version 2.4.0.70 for a while.
I haven’t tried any firmware changes, but when I looked during initial troubleshooting, the P1S and AMS both said latest version. Do I need to roll them back?
Running out of ideas. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.
I don’t believe there is any correlation between Studio and the front cover coming off. With the cover make sure nothing is poking just a little out when you put it on and check the magnets for built up dirt. They aren’t the largest magnets.
No offense, but your laptop is old. Legacy old. Depending on when it was made you have 2-4 gb ram, 16 if you’ve got a newer one. If you have another device that’s newer to use Studio on I’d start there. Of course the cover falling off is not a product of this.
I’d also consider swapping the sd card out, if it’s going bad can cause some issues as well.
I get it! This laptop is ancient! It does have 16gb of RAM. What bothers me is that up until a few weeks ago, it was flawless! Not fast by any means, but completely functional.
The part with the cover has me baffled too. I’ll try cleaning the magnets. I did verify there isn’t anything obstructing it from completely closing. It just seems really odd that the problem started on the first print after the update and it only throws the code in the exact two spots during bed leveling, but never while printing, where it would encounter the most movement and best chance of jarring loose.
I’ve had a ticket in with Bambu from the beginning and so far none of their solutions have proved to be a good fix.
Thanks for the reply! I appreciate you taking the time to comment!
It does move with where I click. I haven’t tried turning off the touchpad yet. I’m running version 1.10.2.76 at the moment to maintain some functionality.
Going to keep troubleshooting the toolhead cover. I’ll keep you guys posted.
It’s a coincidence that the cover falls off when you updated. I’ve never seen the keyboard icon myself.
You may want to try this as well.
To clear the Bambu Studio user folder to fix issues, close the application and navigate to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\BambuStudio. Delete the system folder and the BambuStudio.conf file to reset corrupted configurations. For a deeper clean, remove the entire BambuStudio folder in AppData\Local as well.
It’s ai answer but I’ve done it myself. Just easier to put here than type it all out.
For the Studio problem, looks to me like a graphics display issue. The green keyboard icon is all that is visible from the popup dialog/menu. The rest, including the background, is completely transparent or not drawn at all. I don’t know why it would start “all of a sudden” but I suggest updating/re-installing the graphics drivers, or at least looking in that direction.
I was wrong about the keyboard icon moving. It does not.
Deleting the various app data files didn’t fix the problem.
Regarding the cover error, I tried cleaning the magnets, no fix. Also rolled back the firmware version and also no fix. Its so weird. The error happens at precisely the same two spots at the same time during each bed level! First time is just after initial nozzle cleaning. If I open the cover just like 2mm, and let it close again, it will allow me to resume, continue with the bed level, then throw the fault again after the bed level, but before the toolhead moves back to purge. Same thing with opening the right side a tiny bit, allow it to close, resume the print, and it prints like normal!
Look at it like this. The cover is held on by magnets. No mechanical (other than magnets) or electronic connection that holds the cover on. That being said no firmware or version of Studio is going to make that cover come off, nor will it make it stay on.
There’s something else at play with the cover. Something is causing it to come off, something physical. That could be a sudden movement, could be something catching it, could be something interfering with it.
Edit, sounds as if one of the connections to the TH board is loose. Have you removed the extruder or done any maintenance to the tool head?
If the driver doesn’t do it, it could also be related to some graphics setting, somewhere. Possibly in Studio (though there aren’t a lot of graphics options there), or in the driver settings, or maybe general Windows (like changing screen scaling or resolution for example). Wish I could point to something more specific, but could be anything at this point (like “collapse toolbar” as a random and seemingly inconsequential example). Again, I don’t know why anything would change w/out you knowing, but assuming nothing changed (or that change was the trigger) is the bane of software troubleshooting.
Hey hey!!! Got Studio working right! It WAS the graphics driver! Weird thing is I had to downgrade it to a Windows 8 version of the driver for it to work! Hope it doesnt cause any issues with other unrelated programs. Greatly appreciate help on that one!
That cover doesn’t seem to be physically moving at all. Maybe it is, but it definitely isn’t falling off completely or visibly opening in any way. I just taped the seam on the right side to verify it stayed in place. With the tape in place, it only throws the code when it wipes the nozzle now.
So……the only other thing is, that I changed over to a hardened nozzle and gears about a month ago. At that time, I printed that alignment guide for the connectors and installed that. Well as it turns out, the guide thing swelled a little and started coming apart forcing one of the connectors out just the tiniest bit. I removed the alignment guide thing and cleaned out the little bits of filament and back in business!!!
I want to thank everyone for the help! Feels good to finally resolve this!
