Many entries in the ‘OpenSCAD Master Challenge’ contest do not include a .scad file, nor do they have the ‘Customize’ button. Should the entries without .scad files be removed from the contest?
I’m currently learning openscad and eager to see the different projects submitted for this contest.
I’ve reported the following models to be removed from the openscad contest. I also checked that none of them contained a .scad in the ‘download stl’ download option.
My message to makerworld was the following:
For the openscad contest, this model does not include the required .scad file, nor does it have a ‘Customize’ button. Please remove entry from contest.
I have nothing personal against these designers, they may have simply misunderstood the contest rules.
I also learned while going through the current entries to look out for the ‘customize’ icon in the upper left corner. If the entry does not have the ‘customize’ icon then that model does not include the required files.
A model that has the required openscad files will include this icon:
I think Makerworld screwed up kinda. In previous contests if you have any model posted before the opening day it wouldn’t allow you to upload. This time around it seems anyone can upload any model from months back and people are just dumping models to gain exposure.
I think thats the right move to allow all models tha did not compete in a different contest before. But there should be a check that an open scad model is required to enter the contest.
Thanks for reporting those! I just noticed how many were not even eligible and surprised that MW does not review these as they are coming in, either automatically or by manual review.
@MakerWorld already eliminated models have appeared again, new models in the competition without file.scad, there are even those who have entered a hueforge into the competition I think that anyone should read the participation rules before participating in the competition, so if they participate, they sign them. I would introduce to these users who are only looking for visibility, a ban punishment for 3 days and if repeated, a ban for a week. Next time they will think twice before clogging up everywhere.
Yes, I know it but apparently it is not applied or in any case it is not very severe as a punishment. I think the 3 day ban has more effect 50 points are nothing compared to the visibility and accumulation of downloads they can get
Since they think they are smarter than everyone, I wouldn’t just take away the points from these people but I would also give them a one-week ban, so that they understand that they have to respect the rules and other users.
Go to their makerworld page, sort by downloads, start going through the most popular models and for every one that doesn’t have an image of a physical print, report it. They’ll get all of the points earned for that model deducted from their account. I just did the top three rows of models on this user. There were some that were actually printed, but a lot that were not.
