I really want to be able to customize designs using the generators available.
I’m willing to work on and figuring out how to use openscad.
Problem is I have a Mac.
Anyone else having issues using openscad on Mac OS?
Works without issues on my side. (apple silicon)
Can you please explain where you have problems or what exactly is not working.
Spinning wheel openscad on my mac.
So if it works for you it’s not the openscad app
Openscad on apple silicon works fine. Download the latest dev build since they haven’t released an official build in years.
Also have mac mini w/apple silicon. Agree on the download the latest version and maybe even try to open a scad file rather than double clicking on the app.
Download from here.
https://openscad.org/downloads.html#snapshots
Only the dev snapshots should be used these days as the min branch hasn’t been uploaded for too many years.
If you are using an older version, it has serious problems running on bigger scripts because something that should be enabled is disabled by default.
The latest dev builds have it enabled automatically, I do not think they even bother asking anymore.
OpenSCAD works just fine on MacOS: Intel CPU or Apple CPU.
I’ve been using it actively since about 2015.
I did open the app then try opening file
And i installed the 2025 version
i start the opens cad app
i then click open and choose the file in my downloads folder xx.scad
it then gets a spinning wheel and says app not responding
IF i open one of the sample files open scad has it doesn’t happen
are you using someones else file? If you have created your own, it is possible you have an infinite loop causing the program to freeze
Maker designer file
Download from makerworld
Move the scad file out of your downloads folder. I have a feeling this is folder permissions issue. There may have been a pop up asking if you’d grant the app download folder permissions and you misclicked.
Disable popups for Makerworld in Safari setting. I was having the same issue. Safari>Settings>Website, then enable popups for Makerworld.
