Option start print at time

I would like to have a slicer option to start a print at a set time next day. So I can start a print before I wake up.

I feel like this feature would lead to more problems than it would solve. Even if you cleaned your build plate and inspected that the area was clear and ready to print there is no guarantee that the same would be true later in the morning. I would imagine you would feel really bad if something ended up on the plate overnight and the printer smashes your printhead into it and does damage to your printer (or the stray object on the plate).

You can start a print before you wake up - you start it before you go to sleep.

You can start remote prints, so i dont see a problem. I never had problems starting a good configured print remote. So I dont get the point.

Here is my position, i can’t fall asleep when i can hear my printer. It’s to distracting for me personally.

The high pitching sound it makes when the printhead moves from one object to the next is very loud and I can hear it behind 2 doors.

I could do slow printing mode, but the movement speed from object to object stays the same.

A solution is to create a profile for this quiet slow printing mode. But i dont always want to start my pc an modify the print file.

it is just not convenient.

So I would like to start it right before i wake up.

Or I also would be fine if they tune ste slow printing mode on H2D, so the travel speed and acceleration get significantly tuned down. Then it’s really really quiet mode.

Solution 1: Same as i can pogram my wasching machine to finish washing before I wake up.

Solution 2: real quiet mode for H2D

Improving your sound insulation is a better path.

A sheet of boom matt on the side helps a good amount and its decently cheap.

I am going to assume Bambu doesn’t want the responsibility for any possible issues that could arise. If they do add this feature, I still think I would avoid it myself. I start my prints from another room, and as it is sometimes realize I failed to inspect my print area before hitting start. Luckily I have time to react before anything really happens. I have never tried starting a print from out of the house exactly for what I said earlier - I have no way of knowing for sure if my printer is set up and ready to go safely, and if I mess up I have no good way to observe or fix it.

Just about every day there is someone posting pictures on Reddit showing the results of unsupervised prints. “Blobs of death”, “spaghetti” and even build plates scraping gouges into the screens of A1 and A1 minis are posted regularly. All of which, by all appearances to me at least, could have been avoided if the print had been observed at the beginning instead of found at “completion”.

I agree with @CincinnatiDesigns, add a third solution to your list and consider other methods of reducing the sound. Then you can have the best of both worlds: A supervised print for at least the first few critical layers, and a good nights sleep!

TOTALLY can be changed in the G-code.

Off the top of my head, I’m not sure if the rapid speed is a single variable that can be changed, or if it recurs throughout the program, but it’s just a number and can be turned down to whatever you like.

G4 is the dwell command, but I am not sure what the address for the seconds is, but I guess it’s the X

So if you would add:

G4 X25200

As the first line in the start g-code of your printer, it’s waiting’ 7 hrs (7x60x60 seconds)
I am not sure if this long time triggers a timeout though.

I would first do a test with X120 (2 minutes) to see if it works. Save it as a separate printer and you can select that printer for your delay.

FYI the max you can delay with G4 is 90 seconds but you can issue multiples of them.

Reference

Definitely interesting to see what the max for the H2 series is.

If it has the same limit, then it requires 40 lines for one hour delay, that is a bit too much.

For a proper heat soak of 15 minutes, you already need 10 lines.
