Orca filament presets deleted by Studio sync⚠️

TLDR version: Make backups of your filament presets if you sync Orcaslicer and Studio. You will probably want to turn off sync.

I use Orcaslicer (v2.3.1-dev) for printing, but still run Studio v2.1.1.52) nearly daily, mainly for comparison and to answer questions here on the forum. I have always allowed the two slicers to sync presets through the Bambu cloud.

Just an hour ago I noticed that three User filament presets created last week in Orca and one older preset were missing in Studio. The remaining user presets are now “Unsupported”. Checked Orca, missing there also. Checked the user configuration folders, the preset .info and .json files were gone from my drive.

I make daily image backups of my drives, so I restored the Orca configuration folder from last week, opened Orca, and those presets were missing again.
I turned off sync, closed Orca, restored the older config again, opened Orca and the presets were back.

I closed Orca, restored the Studio configuration, opened Studio, presets were gone.
Turned off sync in Studio, restored the config again, re-opened Studio to find the newer User presets are now Custom presets, older ones are still unsupported. I then turned on sync while the filament preset folder was open in Windows File Explorer and watched the files disappear.

Browsing my backups, it seems this issue began around July 4. I may have updated Orca about that time, but I think this is a Studio or cloud issue that needs more investigation than I have time for right now.

I just wanted to get a warning out before anyone else loses their presets. Make backups before running either slicer if they are in autosync mode.

I had this happen yesterday, believe me I was not happy.
Beside removing all my filament presets, it also removed 2 Klipper printers.

I tried to see exactly what was happening but I’ve kind of lost track of what is happening when…

At one point, even the standard Bambu and Generic filament presets were duplicated in the “Unsupported” list.

Sync on/sync off/ Orca/ Studio/ logout/ login in/ rename preset/ edit preset/ restore files again
:scream:

At the moment, I’m keeping sync turned off in Orca, that’s the slicer I actually use and I do not want to mess with what works.

In Studio currently, most of the old “User” presets have started showing up as “Custom” presets and there are no “unsupported” presets. Some presets still disappeared from the Studio config folder as soon as I re-enabled sync in Studio.

Printer profile sync has been working properly, showing changes made in the past two weeks.
As far as I can tell, Process profiles were also syncing as expected, though I have not tested the few modified profiles I have.

I’m about ready to abandon Studio altogether. IMO, nothing Bambu has changed in the past year or so has actually been an improvement for my purposes. Deleting presets without warning is not acceptable. If I did not maintain my own backups I would have lost the results from many days of calibrations.

I turned Sync off in both Orca & Studio.

Right now I have the A1 Mini in BS, I haven’t tried to use Orca with it yet.

What happened to me was I loaded a.3mf from MW into Orca & it added the A1.
Then I got 2 or 3 screen asking about settings & it not being an Orca file, then it asked to sync & Orca crashed.
Re-starting Orca it said something about not being able to recover.
I loaded the file again & it loaded fine then I noticed the A1 was the only printer in the list & I don’t even own the A1.
I shut down Orca & opened BS & noticed all my filaments were gone.
Restarted Orca & saw it was the same as BS.
The 2 Klipper printers were there, but they were the stock profiles, not the 2 I created.

I have everything pretty much back as before.
