Our thoughts on the recent discussion regarding AI generated models

Makerworld is like a dating website at this point

The image she post on her profile:

What you get when you turn up to the date

It’s mushy like cereal that’s been sitting in the milk wayyy too long.

It’s like the Marketing versions of the McDonalds Hamburger, vs what you actually get!

This comment though sums up the feelings of the community.

Most important is in Bold, just to be clear.
I will leave this here, just to remember what @MakerWorld wrote in November 2024.
Clearly, until now, they have done all of that right? Right?!

Makerworld is not taking its own advice or following its own rules.
I reported this yesterday CAT BOAT WITH MERMAID TAIL by lucio - MakerWorld
The actual model has terrible detail, used a screenshot of the sliced file as proof & it was rejected.
The benchy contest is full of so much AI generated low quality non proven prints forcing users tonl wade through it.
If I printed that from the App then got the end result that is nothing like the picture id be pretty disappointed.

There are some really amazing Benchy models that we’ve seen in the contest, but unfortunately, I’ve also seen a ton of AI generated cover images getting really high on the trending list with lots of downloads. Then you visit the comments that talk about how they were excited for the model, but the actual print did not turn out too well, which I’m sure is a disappointment and a waste of filament. It’s a bummer because the AI models in many cases look like they would be a really fun print and design, and wouldn’t be that challenging for someone to design in CAD given the step files.

The latest images from ChatGPT are getting really “good” where it looks printed, but it’s just deceiving. It would be great if there was a way that people could tag the images as AI otherwise, they are not allowed to gain points on the model.

I have seen your latest model.

We spoke about you putting in less effort, less quality and generally phoning it in so the rest of us have a chance.

I see you ignored this reasonable suggestion!

That was what @MakerWorld wrote on their statement in November 2024. The problem is that no user will put the “AI” tag on their own models because they are afraid.

About this

Oh boy, that would mean that many AI "artists that were previously called on this same topic would get no points at all
Makerworld does not want that, trust me. They want downloads and exposure. They want to give printers away to already well established creators instead of giving the chance to those who are nothing, like they did with the last H2D giveaway and before with other printers, filaments, etc. They are doing the same with rewards and boost tokens and even better, it’s their platform. They are not obliged to tell anyone what they are doing, just like Anycubic did on Makeronline that had hidden models without informing the user and with that, making points impossible to get. This must be a thing with these companies.

The rich getting richer and the poor making the rich even richer, as always.

I tried to game the reddit giveaway where the only people who stood a chance of winning were print farmers. The contest was for most hours printed, and you could use the total of three printers.

I don’t think they bought it.

 That is not fair, you should be the winner, for sure

I don’t even know who won it on reddit. I just saw that here in Makerworld someone got a H2D for free. Then that same person can spend those 500+ coupons they have already to buy other stuff

Now seriously, i think they should do a giveaway but to the smaller creators, those who don’t have enough rewards for redeeming printers. It’s one way of making those smaller creators work harder and be rewarded at the same time.
The way they do it it does not incentivize people to do more, it just looks like they are in favor of the big ones only.

Yeah, with this system the only way to get big is to be a big creator already since small creators have a much harder time with the smaller share of attention (and of course this discourages new creators). I do wish that MakerWorld would put more models from small creators in the spotlight…

I started in January 2024, it took until August of 2024 before any of my models got any real traction.

By that time, I had uploaded over 300 models.

I have uploaded many more since.

According to the end-of-year review, I was in the top 100 designers.

Based on my dwindling return now, I cannot imagine how ANYONE new has a chance. The rules change so often, never with warning. The Boosts were meant to target what the points accrued couldn’t; they changed that recently, rewriting history in the process.

When the Boosts were first launched, we were told to boost the smaller designer who made something nice you liked and could use.

Now, suddenly everything changed, and history was rewritten, saying it should go to the big designers who have time to make complicated things.

Worse, if you do not oblige, they will penalise you.

I pity the new designer.

Do not think my once high esteem earns me any favours, as I am often targeted by staff who do not know the rules they are paid to enforce.

A simple check also finds that my models are being suppressed.

Not all downloads and prints are counted, even after all the rules that dismiss legitimate downloads and prints. I am performing tests on this, I will create a report to follow next week.

I really wish I had taken the initiative and started uploading earlier in November when I got my P1S… But now there is no way to go back to the good old times :pensive:
Should we create a separate thread for this? “SUPPORT SMALL CREATORS!!!”

Why the need for a 2nd account?

Maybe just because he can? Makerworld recently confirmed that you can have multiple accounts (and some people even have 6 accounts or more). Interestingly, these are usually those who have AI-generated models

And there it is, both of those accounts already have their models on the front page…

Just… wow… :upside_down_face:

That certainly is looking at the glass half full option. :+1:

I should be less skeptical thinking they they had a violation on the first account and had to spin up a 2nd.

This one is just hilarious.

I didn’t think about it that way, but it’s quite possible (especially if we consider who it concerns)

:rofl::rofl: No, I meant the printers are
