Over-extrusion during the last part of a bigger project

Hello fellow printing enthusiasts,

I am currently printing this AMS Riser V2 Model from Makerworld: AMS Riser V2 by maCyo42

I print on a P1S with eSun PLA+ (main body) and BambuLab PLA Silk (accents) filament.

While printing the bigger parts (1 and 2) I keep running into the same Problem:
The majority of the component is printed without any problems and the color change also works perfectly. However, from around layer 860 (shortly after the color change), when the layer area becomes smaller, strong over-extrusion begins. This leads to a deformation of that part as well as a weaker layer adhesion.

I added some pictures showing the problem. The over-extrusion part is marked with a green square. Please just ignore the part behind the red cross, it is another component that I can’t remove from part 2 anymore because of the deformation due to the over-extrusion.

I really hope someone knows what causes this issue because I have no idea how to fix this.

Thank you in advance for trying to help me :slightly_smiling_face:

I just found out that it’s not an over-extrusion problem.

While I was watching my printer, I noticed that the hotend cooling fan wasn’t spinning at all. I checked the wiring and saw that the fan connector wasn’t plugged in properly. Maybe it became loose when I opened up the front cover last time.

After plugging it back in it started spinning as it should.
And what can I say… my weird “over-extrusion problem” is gone.

So if you are having the same weird problem as I had, try checking your hotend cooling fan. Maybe that is the solution to your issue.
