Over Extrusion on first contact for the model

I suddenly experienced failed prints while using brim ears -the first ear would always peel off during the application process, the rest would be fine. I noticed the unretract “dot” at that point of first contact after the prime line was larger than the rest. See the image(s). (

The last image shows the lower bright blue “unretraction” first extrusion in contrast to the upper standard size “unretraction”).The subsequent passes to fill the ear would cause collision and tear the ear up. I’ve been unable to explain this and don’t recall this issue previously. I’ve avoided the issue by adding a single skirt line, but I’d like to understand why this is happening now. This occurs with Bambu Lab PLA Basic bright green with default settings as well as custom settings for another PLA (YXPolyer, black) I was using, so It doesn’t appear to be filament setting or filament behavior.

This has happened on my own model as well as a Makerworld download, so a variety of settings.

I’m 6 months into printing, and I’m lost on this one. Please help the newbie!

Thank you!
