P1P interlaced under/overextrusion infill after head crash

Hey guys, I’ve been printing very succesfully with my p1p and p1s for a while now but I recently was working with a new filament (Sainsmart GT-3 TPU) when my p1p seemed to act as if it was clogged.

I cleared the clog with a manual feed of pla in and performed a cold pull and then went to put the TPU back in. I royally screwed up here and hit load filament while the front cover was just dangling… It dragged the cover and crashed into it pinching it into the front right corner then proceeded to peform it’s normal load routine. This crash caused the fan connector and the connector right below it to be pulled out. I killed the power and reseated the cables.

I started it back up, got my filament fed in and it seemed normal except it’s nozzle clean procedure seemed to perform extremely slow… I decided to try to let it print my tpu project and I started getting this very tsrange behavior of overextruding and underextrtuding on straight lines and then perfectly underextruding and over extruding in the next lines to fill the gaps of the previous lines to complete a perfect layer, but with strange artifacting of this interlacing under/overextrusion but only on top/bottom and solid infill. Walls seem to print perfectly straight.

I completely factory reset and calibrated the printer and it still perfoms this strange infill artifacting, however the purge and nozzle wipe procedures seem to be back to normal operation. I’m at a complete loss as to what this could be or how to address this… Any help anyone can provide would be grealty appreciated!

You’ve probably failed to tighten down the head screws enough, it’s a very common mistake on the X/P series.

Are you referring to the two screws that hold the hotend to the head?

If you are, I have just checked them and they are extremely tight and the hotend feels solidly attached.

Yes those two screws. Sound like yours are OK.

Gotcha, thanks for the suggestion. This is driving me crazy trying to figure out what could possibly be causing this, so I’m open to any troubleshooting suggestions anyone has.

SOLVED!?!?!? TLDR: too high flow ratio, set back to default TPU for AMS and got very nice prints. Must have been struggling with a partially clogged extruder before all of this went down.

Whelp… turns out that maybe I was dealing with some sort of issue with the extruder before the crash that made me need to run a super high flow ratio. Turns out that maybe the cold pull, crash, and factory reset has helped me with my TPU issues and made it so the flow ratio no longer had to be through the roof.

After getting very frustrated I just decided to try using the default TPU for AMS profile and suddenly it worked silky smooth, something I had been struggling with for months before this with massive under extrusion. Possibly I just had a really clogged extruder or something before this and now this tear down and cleaning while troubleshooting must have cleared my issues up. Really happy with the results I’m getting now after switching back to the stock TPU for AMS profile with just a small tweak here and there.
