Had a misprint and it globbed up the hot end. The hot end carries a 0.4mm hardened nozzle, so it’s desireable to salvage it. I do have replacement heaters/thermistors as well as the clip. I’m not sure how best to “clean up” this hot end. I’d RATHER not put it back on the printer until fully cleaned and “rebuilt”, I’d like to know any other thoughts about how to recover this hot end…
You’ll need to buy a new heater and thermistor to replace the goobered up set you have in the photo and that’s $24 (you have to get 3 at a time).
It’s a whopping $36 for a complete replacement instead and that saves you the hour+ of cleaning, heating, and probably warping the old head.

Would like to salvage as a backup if possible. will a product like Acetone get that nasty stuff off?

Ethyl Acetate (fingernail polish remover) would be my first try depending on what that actually is that gooed it. Slap the solvent and the part in an ultrasonic cleaner for a while if you have one.
Could try heating it to 250 degrees Fahrenheit (121C) and blowing it clean with an air compressor if that doesn’t work.
Eye/Lung protection would be prudent for both options… also Ethyl Acetate is very flammable.

Heat gun and brass brush. Patience wouldn’t hurt either. I use heat guns, but a torch or just a lighter will do. Get some pliers and wrap duct tape or electrical tape on the jaws. Not to protect them but not to scratch up the heatsink. You can skip that if you don’t care about such things.
Really as simple as it sounds. Heat up, brush repeat. Watch out for the thermistor hole. Try to heat up and pull it out gently by the wire. Not the end of the world as there’s another on the other side, just not ideal. Have a needle on hand to clear that hole if it’s blocked with filament.
Don’t burn yourself.
