Since i received the P1S on 20/02/2025, I have not yet had a successful print.
I have tried only Bambu Lab filaments (PLA, PLA Matte, ASA & PA6-GF) with the 0.4 BambuLab hardened steel nozzle and gear upgrade.
Every print to date has resulted in extreme banding on every layer.
What have i tried to date:
- upgrading the firmware - downgrading the firmware - re-upgrading the firmware. (currently on V01.08.00.00)
- tried all default profiles in Bambu Studio and Orca Slicer (0.2, 0.16 & 0.08)
- slowing acceleration down to 1-2000 and print speeds as low as 30mms.
- calibrated flow rate, cooling and pressure advance.
- full system reset & multiple full calibrations (with vibration compensation - the long one)
- Bambu Lab anti vibration feet.
- multiple ‘cold pulls’ & about 30 x X/Y belt calibrations, from 2lb - 6lb tension, using the official bambu wiki and various other guides on the Bambu forums. (no improvements)
- concrete slab underneath the printer to eliminate vibration (it’s solid!)
- full extruder teardown and inspection (all bearings present and no blockages found)
- All belts and pulleys look undamaged and straight. belts run in the pulley centres.
- AMS & P1S PTFE replaced with Bambu PTFE replacements.
- matching outer wall speeds, layer time & flow.
- Installed an E3D Diamondback nozzle to see if it is a nozzle issue. (quality is the same)
Mechanical problem:
I have discovered that the front right lead screw assembly is binding when the bed is at the bottom, however this may be unrelated.
- i have conducted around 10 z axis belt tensions with no effect.
- when removing the z belt i have observed that the rear and front left pulleys spin fine with no problem, however the front right pulley is binding.
- I have removed the pulley. the lead screw is still binding.
- i have removed the lead screw assembly for inspection. it is perfectly clean (pristine!), lightly oiled, the top and bottom bearings spin freely. it is perfectly straight when rolled on a flat surface.
- the locking nut when detached from the bed coupling spins up and down the lead screw without sticking. (buttery smooth)
- i have also moved the bed coupling up and down the lubricated z axis guide rod, without the locking nut attached. There is no friction (again buttery smooth).
- However! although all of these are very smooth independently, when combined they are binding, even with the bed detached.
I am attaching a photo of my most recent test print. This is the best quality I have achieved so far.
It’s settings are:
Standard 0.2 BBL process + Bambu Matte PLA filament profile. Single wall, 0 top layers, Arachne, wall speed 40mms, acceleration 1000, nozzle 220C. filament diameter reads 1.74mm on the calipers.
I have been 3D printing for 12 years, so not a novice.However i am completely stuck on this one!
Here is an example of the banding. This is the best quality i have achieved so far with Bambu Matte PLA.
It has been dried multiple times at 50C in a filament dryer for 10 hours. (i’ve done this across 7 spools now and all had the same issue, so i dont think it’s moisture)
Process and filament settings in my original post above were used for this print.

That’s weird! i just deleted it and re-uploaded, but i’m also getting the same error. I’m guessing it must be something on the back-end of the bambu servers.
Not essential to run a test print though tbh. I get the same result on the pre-loaded files on the SD card, and any file i manually slice in bambu studio / orca with default settings, (including all the way down to 0.08 layer height)
I think i’m mostly interested to see if the Bambu printers can actually produce clean walls under a harsh light, so if you’re able to take a close up photo of a straight surface with a light shining directly down on it, that would be amazing for comparison.

FYI the .3mf download issue is forum related and will hopefully be fixed soon.
It seems .3mf’s can still be transferred via PM’s.

They shurely can. I would contact bambu support , heres a shot of one of my models, printed in shown orientation, 0.28 pla matte

My models where printed with a very much out of the box p1s with default settings. If its pretty much worse than this from the beginning, i would think your printer has some serious problems and its a support case…

I can confirm that i have never had a print even close to that from my P1S unfortunately (even on a diamondback nozzle!).
I’ve raised a support ticket but i’m still waiting for a response. I suspect it’ll end up being a replacement after everything i’ve already explored though

How did it respond to slowing way down?
Have you checked the extruder gears? Sometimes a little bit of filament or debris will get stuck in the gears and cause inconsistent extrusion.
Also, feel around the toolhead and check for anything that feels loose.

I would say it’s definitely better at slower acceleration speeds (the image i posted above was at 1000mms for reference.)
I’ve also done a full teardown of the extruder but cant see anything obvious
all bearings are present and free moving, there is no debris that i can see, all teeth on the yellow gear and hardened steel gears look pristine under a magnifying glass.
I have tried to wiggle the toolhead but it doesn’t seem to have any play. It all just feels pretty solid!.
I did just find a video on youtube however of someone that had a misaligned idler gear in the extruder that caused this exact issue, so that’s what i’m checking next! I also haven’t tried reverting back to the standard gears that came with the P1S so i plan to try that too!
