P1S not extruding after even after new hotend

The printer was just moving like it was printing but nothing was coming out. No actual print being produced. The P1S is about 7-8 months old.

Troubleshooting I did:

● Replaced the PTFE tubing to the print head because it was worn

● I started with an AMS but then I put the spool on the spool holder on the back of the machine to rule out any AMS issues

● Tried extruding manually using the control panel but just heard “click click click click click click…” So I figured the hotend was clogged.

● Eventually replaced the hotend. Tried to extrude manually again. A little bubble of filament came out of the hotend and stopped, then again the same “click click click click click click…”

The filament will not extrude. The printer just finished a successful print using Bambu Basic about 15 minutes prior. I was printing the same file.

I have tried Bambu Basic, Hatchbox, and Polymaker Polylight filaments all with the same results. Just keep getting that “clicking” sound.

Does anyone know what the problem is and if there’s a quick fix? I’m getting behind being down a printer.

i had the same thing happen on my mini but i have an h2d and a p1s and have not hade these problems. When i had the click clikc lick on my mini i just continously manually extruded filament until it came out. Hope this is helpful. :slight_smile:

From what you have described, I would assume that extruder gear is either slipping or something else is wrong with the extruder assembly itself.

My knowledge of Bambu Labs printers is limited, so I do not know exactly how it is assembled or how easy it is to troubleshoot individual parts.

Yeah, the gear slipping was my thought too. It happened with my mini and I adjusted the tension and it fixed it. But that was out of the box. This has been fine for 7-8 months

I have 2 other P1S, both are newer. I wonder if this normal wear and tear and I should expect the same from the others, or if its just a random issue.

While I am generally NOT an advocate for Panda products, I did buy and install their Panda Claw metal extruder gear assembly.
Every inch of extruded filament has to run through the extruder gear asssembly and I think a metal assembly is going to outlast its plastic counterpart. (pending good quality machining of gears).
I would also recomment checking the tension and wind it in until the screw is tight. Not so tight as to break or strip the tensioner but just shy of that.

Thank you. I did all that last night. I saw a YouTube video of a piece of filament stuck inside the extruder. When i took it apart the was no debris. I wiped it down and lubed it

After i reinstalled it, i fed filament through is and it worked great.

HOWEVER!!! When i reinstalled the new hotend i set the temp to 220 to try to extrude filament. The temperature on the dsiplay jumped all over the place - 163, 58, 117, 14, 68…and so on. It finally stopped at zero.

I quickly tapped the nozzle (shush) and it was cold. Turned the printer off and back on and tried again. Did it 3 times and stopped.

So now im wonderful if a sensor to the hotend went bad. That would explain the “printing” without actually printing and the clicking. If the hotend isn’t heating up, the the filament won’t push through and the gears will click.

So…now…how do I fix THIS?

Have you crashed the nozzle or done something to bend it? If no, you can buy a thermistor kit.

But before I spent that money I would swap nozzles and see if a different nozzle works. If it does not work, something is broken farther upstream.
You took the sock off and it looks like the heater and thermistor are mounted correctly?

It’s a brand new hotend. I originally thought it was a hotend issue so swapping it out for a new one was one of the first things i did

Make sure the two electrical connections are plugged in correctly. Sounds like “No duh” type comment but those tiny plug connections have probably bitten everyone at one time or another. They’ve bitten me before. They can get plugged in offset by a single pin and it will send printer into a tailspin.
Have you don any mods to printer? Those can cause trouble if you are tapping into the printer for power.
