I have not seen this observation discussed anywhere. When I have a failed print it usually happens early in the first few layers. When this occurs I notice the first layer doesn’t have a uniform pattern which should be expected from a design that is flat and uniform throughout.
Attached is an example although it’s not as good an example and I’ve seen before.
I’m printing a “toolgrid plate” that is flat, symmetric, and uniform. I’ve attached the sliced first layer. You’ll notice on the circles that are printed first don’t follow a particular pattern. The travel of the print head skips to other parts of the print before completing.
When this happens the pattern being printed is incomplete and clumping or poor adhesion occurs. But eventually the print will begin to proceed in a more uniform and complete manner.
I hope this makes sense. In my mind it’s as if the travel of the print head has been sliced because the design is not completely flat - but I know that’s not the case. These prints are “flat” but why doesn’t the machine know it can simply start at a corner and work it’s way in one direction and complete the pattern throughout in one pass of the first layer? Why the skipping around? This is why my prints are failing. Thanks for any help!
