New P1s, unpacked ~1 month ago. Have been dealing with loud squeaking, primarily when the bed is moving down. Any squeaking during upwards movement is significantly quieter. Have performed multiple Z lead screw and Z-axis linear rod cleaning (not that they’ve had much time to get dirty yet) and re-greasings to no avail. Noticed that the noise tends to occur in the middle ~80% of the range (far less noticeable at the two extremes).
The belt rubs the tension idler there on the edges and makes squeaky noise.
BBL suggest to lube the edge of the belt to reduce squeaky. But don’t apply grease directly on the teeth of the belt or pulley as it might cause skipping.
My hypothesis: The belt was cut straitght, but after stretching for sometime it comes to its natural shape which a bit bendy hence it moves up and down on the pulley.
There is no guarantee new belt would be straight after sometime. So, just suck it up and deal with it.
I did use silicone spray on the pulley there and it did reduce a lot of squeaky.
Ah, I see. Thank you. Is this a fairly common issue with the P1s, or did I get a lemon? While I’m all for customizing a device to your liking… being forced to print and modify the device to fix a manufacturing issue not even 2 months in doesn’t feel particularly good.
Yeah, I havent had a chance to print these out and install yet, but this does seem to be the answer that doesnt involve warranty return. I’ll mark it as the solution. Thank you Simon14
