Had the machine for a few months and was working fine until this happened. I put a program on before going to bed and woke up to this. I went with the default settings per the recommendation of the program. Everything checked out before selecting print. Not sure how this happened.
#1: In order to fix the machine… I need insight/solutions on how to remove the filament that has encased the toolhead. The front cover of the tool head will not go back on. So I can not hone the machine or calibrate it without dragging the cover around and potentially causing more damage.
#2: Is this even salvageable once the filament is remove?
It’s commonly referred to as the “blob of death” and it happens to the best of us. Filament will start to curl up and then it snowballs in to what you see here.
I’ve always removed the hotend and used a heat gun but I’ve seen people here report they had good luck putting it in the freezer and then breaking the filament off fairly easily.
In my opinion, as affordable as Bambu hotends are, if it doesn’t come off easily I would just replace it. There’s a good change the thermistor and heater are going to be damaged.
I appreciate the info. Is there a manual way to lower the bed? I’m unable to without it wanting to hone.
Also, what kind of heat gun were you using? That was my first idea but I didn’t want to ruin anything in the process.
So if you go to the z section on the screen, select it, and hit down it will move a tiny bit… when it tells you that you need to home just hit the back key…repeat over and over… just make sure NOT to hit “ok” when it tells you to home. I’m using this heat gun:
but any one will work, just take your time and don’t burn yourself or anything else. Oh and only use the heat gun if you take the hot end off, don’t try it with it on the printer.
