P1S TPU Help with Hardened Steel Upgrade

I do not know about @DemonI81, but I checked and saw no blockage. It prints other filament fine, but just not TPU.

Same, no blocks, fought trying to feed it through the ptfe for the side mount, then tried just going to the extruder and bypassing the ptfe… didn’t make a difference. I even left petg in the nozzle when I switched the extruder gears back to stainless and it fed the tpu, from the side mount pushed through the ptfe to the extruder, immediately. It purged out the petg and was able to start printing with the tpu. It’s been printing the tpu since then with zero issues, going right now.

Are you willing to submit something to bambu lab? I will too!

I had a really poor experience with TPU 95A on my A1 mini, but only with the hardened steel nozzle.

I swapped back to stainless steel and all was good.

I didn’t even bother trying it on any of my P1S printers.

I keep reading this, but I was given a 0.4 HF nozzle for Christmas (my spouse loves me!) and haven’t had any trouble with printing TPU. (Nor did I have trouble with the 0.4 regular before it.)

I don’t run TPU through the PTFE tube. I pull the glass lid off and feed it directly from spool to print head.

I also do a cold pull every time I switch to or from TPU.

That’s why I said ā€œcanā€.
I fed some from a Sunlu S4 to the external on my P1 once and it struggled to feed it. Moved it to the external thinking the extra drag was the culprit and it still struggled. Finally took the E3D HF off and put on a regular .4 and it worked. Ended up using at .6 in the end though.
Just my experience and offering up different suspects just in case they help.

As an FYI. I just loaded a spool of Bambu 95A HF to print some things. The filament seemed a little thin to me so I measured it. It is right at the low end of the specification for diameter. Just another thing to check.

No, did they respond to you yet? Funny enough they tell us to push the TPU in the gears, but that does not work. How do we calibrate the flow rate if nothing is coming out!

No response yet, but I specifically said to them that I tried pushing it in, bypassing the PTFE and going straight to the extruder, so they can’t pull that on me, at least not if they read my ticket.

I see many post about people having problems with different filaments, also motor overload or extruder overload. In fact, all kind of problems that many say is the extruder problem, filament problem or printer problem. These printers work as intended. Majority of the problems is user error (I don’t say printer cannot have problem) but I could say 80-90% is user error. You can print any filament and it is wet, it will print with problems of finishing but will print. PLA, PETG, ASA. ABS, TPU, etc.. they have different setting that needs to be check and follow very carefully also listen manufacturer advices and use them to improve your experience. I have been printing all kind of filament and of course I found problems on my way, but I know what is causing it and how to fix it. I can say for sure majority of the time is nozzle temp, bed temp (adhesion problem) and wrong Max Volumetric (place attention on this setting).

So explain why TPU will not feed with hardened gears but does with stainless gears, with all the same settings on both, same filament, only difference is 10 minutes and an extruder gear change.

I’m waiting for your explanation. While you’re at it, feel free to go explain it on all the reddit threads about this issue too.

What!! So they are saying you installed it wrong. Do they want you to extrude the entire print by hand??? I might run some tests of my own to figure this out.

Make sure you aren’t using the AMS system. You have to extrude directly into the nozzle and don’t use a PTEF tube. Make sure your gear is spinning and that you have a sharp filament cutter in the nozzle.

disassembly of the machine introduces possible errors, news at 11, no need to be so combative towards a community of 100% non bambu employees.

Show a pic of your TPU’s filament plumbing setup. It’s really important for it to not have much resistance on its way to the extruder for machines like the p1/a1/x1.
