P2S, 4 different hardware issues

I got a P2S with AMS2 last week.
It was fine printing everything with no issues for a couple days.
It then started giving errors with tension in the extruder. Telling me to check for blockages. There were no issues. This would error multiple times in a row, then go for hours fine before constantly erroring again.

I have tried 4 different brands and PLA, PLA+ and PETG, nothing seemed to be consistent with it the tension errors.

Then yesterday the next issue came during a print.
The AMS2 stopped saying that there was no filament in #3. But there was, it was just printing for 3 hours from it. I would hit the fixed button, the light on #4 would turn on then spin the filament in #4 backwards before stopping, the light on #3 comes back on then says there was no filament in that one.
I ended up having to stop the print and turn the machine off/on before this error was gone. It seemed like it was signalling the wrong slot in the AMS.

After this was fixed I tried to get a new print going. It kept saying that there was filament loaded in the manual slot and filament in the extruder.
I took the extruder fully apart and noticed there is a thing that appears to spring back when the filament is removed. I found a bunch of what looked like to be fluff in this jamming it so it would not spring back into its normal location.
This was reassembled and no more filament in the extruder message. I have no idea where fluff would have come from after only 3 days of printing.


I still had the message saying that there is filament loaded in the manual slot. I haven’t even used the manual slot.

I took the buffer apart, checked all the tubes. Manually pushed filament through the manual side all the way around to the extruder. No blockages.

The full message is “Please pull out the filament on the spool holder. If this message persists please check to see if there is filament broken in the extruder”

It doesn’t try to load anything. It just says i need to pull out from the manual load.
It won’t let me do a cold pull either, says I need to remove the manual load first.

Anyone know what the sensor is for the manual load?

Hi,

Can you provide some more information?

  • Which filament manufacturer do you use? This is caused by poor-quality cheap filaments.
  • Try updating the firmware; this has solved many issues.
  • Have you contacted support?

I have tried these brand filaments eSun, Sunlu and CocoonCreate.

Firmware is on the latest version

I have submitted a support ticket but have not heard back yet.

Well, these aren’t exactly “top brands,” and sometimes there are problems with these filaments on forums. However, if you’re not logged in, try logging in as a beta tester and updating the firmware to version 01.01.01.00.

I upgraded to 01.01.01.00 this morning. It must not be beta anymore as it popped up during my investigations into the issues.

The main thing at the moment is I just can’t get any filament to load as it says I need to retract it from the manual loader.

And the problems still persist? Personally, I have printed over 300 hours on P2S, and the only thing I had to deal with was VFA.

If the problems persist, the ideal solution is probably to complain to the retailer where you bought it and exchange it. Unfortunately, it’s still just electronics, and there may be a problem somewhere on the board.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed and let me know what support says.

Yes. It just says “Please pull out the filament of the spool holder”
The retailer is Bambu Lab. Was an online purchase direct.

Bambulab printers aren’t bad, but their support is terrible. That’s why I buy all my printers from local retailers so that I can quickly resolve any issues or complaints. I’ll keep my fingers crossed and hope everything works out.

I found this which shows the sensor can be taken apart further

On inspecting mine further taking it fully apart, I saw the fluff wasn’t fluff at all, its plastic.
There is a hole in the side and a bunch of plastic has frayed getting stuck between the sensor spring mechanism and the closed gap for the filament path.

It was also all around inside where the filament goes. Thats why I thought it was fluff.
This is on the underside of the sensor so its not even like something coming down from the top could have caused that. It looks more like manufacturing defect.

I wonder if this is what was causing the tension errors. I used a knife to try and cut/scrape it out and the filament has loaded now.
Some of the scrapes are from me getting the previous bits out to try and make it close.

It was making the hole for the filament too small and trapping the sensor.

This is the screw coming through. If the bottom screw is done up too tight it comes right through impacting on the movement of the sensor.

Since scraping out that plastic and putting the bottom screw in half-way, all the other issues appear to have stopped.
I haven’t had any filament load issues or any tension errors.

The AMS2 loading the wrong slot was fixed after reboot so I assume it was just a software issue.

I have an issue in the slot 4 of the ams 2 pro that came with my P2S combo.
The slot 4 keeps detecting a filament despite of filament being there.

That seems to be a different issue to what I was getting.
My AMS2 was loading one slot, but then powering up a different one. A full reboot fixed it.

I had that. It turned out there was a tiny peace of broken filament inside the AMS motor. Not easy to get it out.

Do you have any video to show how to fix? I have the same issue in slot 1.

Did you resolved your issue? I have the same issue in slot 1.

I don’t think that there is another way than taking the AMS apart, disconnect the tubes and hunt for broken pieces. For the rear motor I poked with a piece of filament while turning the motor by hand until a little broken piece came out.
