P2S - Bambu PLA Glow - Extrusion resistance abnormal etc

newbie here with a P2S combo, got the printer for about a week.

So far I’ve been able to work out any issues with the help of the documentation, but now I’m at my wit’s end.

Got a spool of Bambu PLA Glow yesterday and tried to print today (from the external spool). After a couple of minutes, I got the message “Extrusion resistance abnormal” (IIRC). Btw I’m using the standard nozzle that came with the printer.

Took the extruder apart, there really was a stuck piece of filament in it. Put it back together, printed a benchy with a different (PLA Basic) filament from the AMS, worked fine.

Then I loaded the glow filament from the external spool, tried to print a benchy, it stopped with 4 minutes to go with the “Extrusion resistance abnormal” error. Took it apart again, but this time I couldn’t find any stuck filament. Put the extruder back together, checked the nozzle etc.

At some point I noticed that the feed for the external spool was the wrong way round. :flushed: Turned it around, again started another benchy with the glow filament - and it stopped again with 4 left. Took the nozzle off and checked if filament would extrude without the it - and it did. Pulled the cut filament from the nozzle, put it back. Resumed the print job, it continued for a minute or two and then said “Extrusion motor overloaded”.

What is going on here?

Can’t get it to print reliably, giving up for today. I managed to print one benchy successfully, but another attempt again stopped with only 4 remaining layers.

It’s almost like the filament gets stuck in the PTFE tube… it’s also impossible to pull back when unloading unless I disconnect the PTFE tube that goes from the buffer into the printer (need to disconnect it on the printer’s side).

Will dry it over night.

I’ve been having trouble with Bambu PLA Glow Yellow. In my case, it’s an AMS feed error. It’s persnickity, sometimes requires I power down then pull the filament all the way back out, working against the AMS motor.

This only happens with this Bambu PLA glow filament, not with Anycubic PLA Glow or Voxelab PLA Glow, nor any other filament I have.

The BL filament is noticeably rougher to the touch. I hypothesize that it’s getting itself jammed somewhere in there due to the higher friction. But that’s just a guess.

Mostly Bambu filament has been great for me, but this spool is maddening.

Try to raise the nozzle temperature by 10C to see if flows better.

Did you print any other material than PLA with this nozzle?
You might have a partial clogged nozzle.

If you have a spare nozzle, try that one to see if you get the same results.

Going to 230 C didn’t really help. I do not have a spare nozzle, I’m just getting started. My first print was actually PETG - my ordered filament hadn’t arrived yet and someone gave me some leftover PETG. But then the nozzle was of brand new, of course.

I’m not really sure if these jams occur in the nozzle or somewhere else in the path. The last two times the print stopped, I took off the nozzle to see if it would extrude without it - the first time it did, the second time it did not. But I could pull out the filament from the top of the toolhead.

Took the extruder apart once more after that just to be sure, was pretty clean, no obvious clogs.

As mentioned before, I have a really tough time unloading filament manually. When the printer tells me to pull back to filament from the external spool, it won’t move one bit - experienced this with the glow filament and also with bambu basic. The only thing that helps is disconnecting the PTFE tube from the oragne coupler at the top of the printer, then I can push the filament back from there - I don’t think it’s supposed to be like that? (EDIT: unloading Bambu Translucent filament worked fine just now, but the glow is giving my trouble very time).

I might get some longer PTFE tube to connect the external spool directly to the printer, without going through the buffer.

I’m also thinking about trying the glow filament with the AMS, but I don’t want to risk having to take it apart…

Ok, just wanted to give a quick update. Today I started another print attempt at 50% speed - and it stopped again. I was able to resume the print after giving the filament some slack from the external spool. I repeated this “game” a couple of times. So the issue is not related to the extruder or the nozzle, but rather the resistance/friction from the filament going through the tubes and maybe rubbing against itself on the spool. I guess at some point the extruder just isn’t able to pull any more filament through the feed.

I then decided to give it a try in the AMS, since it pushes the filament into the printer, so I thought the extruder wouldn’t have to do all the work.

And, surprise, surprise, a two hour print went off without a hitch. But when the print had finished, the AMS failed to pull the filament back (I alread suspected this might happen). Luckily this was easily fixed by disconnecting the PTFE tube from the back of the printer, then I was able to pull the filament out of the printer, hit resume on the print job and now the AMS could retract the filament.

Are you sure there is no sharp bend in the PTFE tubes anywhere?

And is the PTFE tube entering the buffer at the rear of the printer fully seated?

The last thing I can imagine is that there is debris in the buffer or the buffer is not functioning correctly.

There’s nothing obvious wrong with the tube, but I will double check everything later. Would going around the buffer work with the external spool?

I just ordered some spare PTFE tube anyway.

Working from external spool doesn’t require the buffer.

I have the exact same problem with the glow pla and my new p2s. Did you figure it out yet?

I managed to print what I wanted with it (two ca. 8-9 hour prints).

I bought some spare PTFE tube from Amazon and bypassed the buffer, feeding directly into the printer from the external spool holder. Printing worked without any issue, but again, retracting the filament from the extruder was hard - had to unplug the tube on the back of the printer to get it out.

Printing from the AMS also did always work, but at the end of longer prints, the retraction would fail. I did one multi-color print with the glow filament where there were only a couple of glow layers at the end, in this case, the AMS pulled the filament back successfully.

I’ve just got the same error on my new p2s. ChatGPT says for glow PLA really need a 0.6mm nozzle and the standard 0.4mm nozzle will struggle.

Is this the problem?

Had nothing to do with the nozzle in my case. It was the resistance in the PTFE tubes. Shortening the filament path by bypassing the buffer allowed me to print.
When manually loading the glow filament, I could feel how much harder it was to push all the way into the extruder.

Btw, just a couple of days ago I did a print with PETG-CF, which is also considered abrasive. No problems there and loading and unloading worked like a charm (from the external spool). From what I’ve read, glow filament is consiered among the most abrasive filaments that exist.

Also having the exact same problem with bambu PLA glow on my new p2s, which has been printing fine with other bambu PLA and petg. Really disappointing, was so excited for this stuff! Using the external spool as recommend by the app…instead off the ams

I do want to mention that Bambu recommends using a hardened steel nozzle and extruder gears for PLA Glow.

My 0.4mm hardened steel nozzle works just fine for PLA Glow.

They also recently added something on the PLA Glow page saying it will wear the AMS feeder quicker, which is why I printed AMS savers for my AMS 2 Pro.

I’ve had my P2S for a few months now. I’ve successfully been a to print with PLA Glow(multiple colors) with the AMS 2 Pro without issue for about a month when I first started trying the filament out.. until the last few days. It’s driving me nuts. With or without the buffer, external spool or through the AMS, it’s not quite making it to the extruder. Maybe 1 out of 10 tries will get it to the extruder and then 50% of those actually successfully start to print. I took the extruder apart and cleaned it thoroughly, same with the hot-end. It’s like the abrasiveness of the PLA Glow has worn the inside of the PTFE tube and it’s causing too much friction now. I have a new roll of PTFE tubing on the way. I’ll post an update once I get a chance to test it out.
