P2S has only 2 filament options?

My P2S only shows 2 options in the filament menu: Bambu Lab or Generic.
I’d love to have dedicated profiles for Polymaker PLA’s.
Is it possible to adapt an existing H2S or H2D profile to work on the P2S?

Thank you for replying.
The “other” filament brands are stored under non-supported filament, and can not be opened on the P2S.
(They do work on my A1)

As long as your filament is dry i use Bambu filament presets for everything and have never had a problem

Ohhhh, sorry. I see what you mean. I think it’s possible to add printers by editing the actual files but Jupitor87’s suggestion is way easier.

Filament parameters depend heavily on the properties of the respective printer. Based on our tests and evaluations, filament parameters from older models cannot usually be directly applied to newer models. Therefore, for new models like the P2S, we are following a new strategy: We do not provide preset profiles for third-party filaments, but instead encourage external filament manufacturers or developers to submit parameters for the new models. We will review and validate these parameters, and once confirmed, they will be added in future software updates.

Therefore, the P2S currently only supports Bambu Lab’s own filament and the “Generic Filament” type. Whether and when profiles for filaments such as Sunlu, eSun, etc., will be added depends on if and when third-party providers or developers submit suitable parameters.

Your custom filament profiles created in Bambu Slicer for the A1 cannot currently be transferred directly to the P2S due to differences between the models. As a temporary solution, we recommend:

“” Currently we would recommend using “Generic PLA” profiles until the Polyterra & Polylite profiles are updated. We try to cover as many printer models as we can with profiles. Please visit wiki polymaker com for the most up to date profile. Since the P2S is a newer printer, it my be a little while until we get a profile specific for that machine.“”

It’s still abysmal how terrible Bambu Studio with their presets for filament. Okay, I do get that you want to gatekeep everyone in using their own mediocre at best filament… but come on, how come I can’t even open up my older calibration presets for different filaments made for my now-gone-P1S? I have to use Orca just to open them side by side, wtf (unwilling to add back printer lol).

Oh, also given that A series, P2, and H2 series have flow calibration - I do encourage users to download Orca and literally just steal print profiles for calibration there.

If you are leaning towards those stupid speculations of “Is sunlu or vendor X makes filament for BL…” That is irrelevant for two reasons:
a) No documents to support any of that.
b) Any vendor or manufacturer of the filament can create whatever quality of the filament based on the technical spec and mixture for material.
Bambu filament is equivalent to a medium tier filament with higher than medium tier pricing. And I will tell you right away - if you think their filament is great, that only means that you haven’t actually seen a real great filament.

Since the P2S use a different extruder servo motor than the A-series and P1, and the official BBL numbers show the H2-models having a higher flow rate than the P2S, just copying print profiles won’t be any good. (i.m.h.o.)

Generally I would agree, but in my testing and that it has automated flow calibration … it just works.

Aren’t you mixing up “automatic dynamic flow” with “flow rate” and max flow (volume/sec), which have to be done manually?

I had the same situation as you, was annoyed by the fact that all my profiles for all types and vendors were “unsupported” by the p2s.

Now after new calibration for ech filament, I made completely new filamentprofiles under p2s, the values of my p1s / x1 are waaaaaaay below what the p2s is capable of.
Regarding Flow “factor” (for example: 0.98)
And max flow rate (xy mm³/sec)

I would also recommend setting up all you filaments again. Yes it’s annoying and time consuming but the results speak for them selfs. I’m getting my flow rates flow up to +30% with the exact same spool from p1 to p2.
It’s worth it.

I don’t know how to reconcile these two statements.

The basic is medium tier, but not mediocre. It’s the same quality as any other eSun high speed PLA, which is not so great but nowhere near mediocre.

You are absolutely right. I mixed up those words, yes I meant the automatic flow dynamics calibration for the flow factor or extrusion multiplier (god I hate different names for the same thing), not max flow rate.

Yes, I do expect that max flow rate will be completely different, but it does not affect the print quality too much and honestly, I usually set it conservative anyway, as I don’t specifically enjoy Bambu default nature of speedrunning though everything (in my practical tests, BL parts from identical material, identical files are tend to be physically weaker than the ones printed on a different printer) so I slowed it down and it helps with part strength.

Eventually I will go through complete manual recalibration, but I have dozens of filament profiles … and. Well you know, it’s annoying as hell haha.

And eSun is also not the best. Quite far away from that spot to be honest.
So yeah… everything checks out.

What filament do you think is great? Expensive stuff like Protopasta? I’ve found Polymaker to be just as good as Bambu, eSun, Sunlu, Elegoo, etc. I don’t think Hatchbox is anything special. Definitely not their 10% Wood pla filaments. Personally I like tye convenience of using Bambu Lab filaments and it is what I mostly use and buy in bulk. I just bought 23 rolls at $11 each. For wood pla I use OVV3D which has 30% walnut, oak, cherry, teak wood in it. I also use some other transparent filaments. I recently tried Jayo gray petg and found it to be the exact color as Bambu dark gray but prints with random white specs in it. I’ll never buy Jayo again. Oh and for matte black I buy 10 packs of Sunlu for 80-100 bucks from their ebay store. It’s exactly like Bambu matte black charcoal and I tape the Bambu sensor on it. The second gen spools suck though and require side adapters.

Jayo is Sunlu. It might be Sunlu seconds, but it’s definitely Sunlu. Sunlu is high quality.

Not really an eSun fan, but it’s OK. I wouldn’t buy it on purpose (Bambu basic used to be eSun, don’t know if it still is, I’d assume so)

Polymaker isn’t a discount brand, I wouldn’t compare it by saying “it’s just as good as” anything, it’s the brand you compare to as a reference.

The little boutique shops like Protopasta (and Prusa) can produce high quality product but manufacturers like Sunlu are in a different class.

They have Overture as their discount brand, but the formulations are different, their PETG is not very good, TPU is not bad.

Jayo and Eryone discount sub-brands are just as good as Sunlu filaments. Some sources say Sunlu manufactures bambu filaments, at least some of the PLA and PETG.

There are a few major filament manufacturers in China, most companies source from them and just slap their branding on it.
