Latest firmware in the P2s and Bambulab version 2.6.0.51
This morning, my P2S started making a ■■■■ of a noise that sounded like vibrations. I rushed over and saw that the print head was all the way at the back of the printer, constantly slamming against the frame. I turned off the printer immediately and restarted it. This was near the end of a 18~ hour print or so
The print I was running was in the middle of the build plate, nowhere near the edge. There were no other visible faults, and I have checked the screws, belts, and rods and cannot find any issues. I was even able to resume the ongoing print and finish it. I have also started a new print since then, which doesn’t seem to have any issues at all. If it was skipping steps I doubt it suddenly would throw the head 100mm+ towards the back all of a sudden
I have run it for around 1,800 hours in total without any previous problems, and I have performed maintenance a few times.
What actually happened here? It feels like it suddenly got completely wrong coordinates and tried to print outside the bed. It doesn’t really feel like a mechanical failure? I have no DIY mods or customizations, didnt “change” anything except turn off the printer and turn it on again and try to resume when it happened.
I do not use an SD card, I start the prints from my computer via the network.
All in all I’m just worried about it happening again when I’m not there. Currently it finished a 10 hour print without any issues or any extra fixes from me. But I’m worried to have it on over the night or when I’m away for a period if it just randomly could do something like this.
