P2S Hot End Stuck

I recently got an extruder motor overload warning during a print on my P2S (had it for 1 month), after removing the toolhead cover, manually cutting the filament ( to confirm it was cut) I tried to remove the hot-end. I removed the silicone boot and unclipped the fastening. The hot-end appeared it had got extremely hot as showed signs of overheating, It would and will not come out from the tool head. I do not want to put a set of pliers on it and force it as I do not want to damage the tool head. I have attached an picture showing the heat damage. Does anyone know how I can remove it without damaging the toolhead? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Heat it up to 120 degree or so, then put 0, before it cools down pull it out with some needle pliers

Maybe someone will correct me if Im wrong, I always heat it up to the temp of the filament I was using, 200-250 C

It will be hot , don’t burn yourself, I use a rag and handle it quickly.

you don’t need to go that high, it’s not filament that is making the nozzle stick, it’s gas residues that solidify and become sticky - i do this all the time in my h2d

I am using Sunlu HS PLA, should I heat up the nozzle to about 150 deg? Sunlu recommends 190-240 nozzle temp! Thanks you

Just heat it enough that it comes lose, try 120 and if it is still stuck go higher, I always go to the same temp as the filament print temp because it lets me wipe any excess off easily

Managed to free it at 130 deg, thanks. I pulled out the old filament from the hot end quite easily and luckily I had a spare to replace it, the printer is up and running again. Is it possible to salvage/clean up the old hot-end? Can I heat up the outside and try and wipe off the burnt on filament? Your advice would be appreciated, thanks.

That’s not exactly filament, like I said gas is released during extrusion and when it cools down and condenses it creates that ā€œgunkā€

You can try a brass brush and IPA, but that one looks pretty nasty, I would probably just toss it away personally

I use a single edge razor blade and get most of that type stuff of then a brass brush if I want it cleaner.

Why waste a perfectly good hotend?

You need to figure out how to remove the gunk regardless, because you do want to clean off the surface on the extruder that it mates to as well, or the next one will just get gunked up too - at that point just clean both of ā€˜em off.

Currently trying to clean now, using IPA and a brass brush, the extruder surface cleaned fairly quickly, the hot-end is steeping in a jar with IPA, hopefully should soften up the ā€˜Gunk’. Thanks.

If it’s PLA alcohol isn’t going to help - PLA doesn’t dissolve in most solvents, and the ones it does dissolve in, you don’t want to have anything to do with.

Hotends are worth more to some than others.

The ā€œgunkā€ on the outside is an indicator of whatever is on the inside.
