Hello, I’m new to printing and my P2S is my first printer. I designed a large print and it ran overnight. This morning I looked at it and toward the top it had skewed at a point and the rest of the print was angled. After looking the base plate itself was moved over 10mm to the left. Picture attached, and I have the timelapse video, but it won’t allow upload:
I used the default print settings with the exception of adding tree supports on auto. I’m assuming the print head hit the print with enough force to move the plate. Does anyone have any recommendations to avoid that in the future? Thanks!
It seems that the “bed shift (?)” happened toward the very end of it printing the tree supports for that large overhanging section. I bet all of those small retractions+the most likely pretty wobbly state of those tree supports caused some imperfections on the layer the supports were supporting, and the printer hit the model and it moved. To solve this, I would use the “normal” supports (they will be harder to remove as they contact the model in more places) or maybe no supports. The overhangs are pretty small and I think the printer would probably be able to bridge it with only a bit of stringing.
Thank you for that information. I wanted to clarify what “bed Shift” meant to me. Here are some images of what I saw. the first is the normal alignment that I see and the second is what I saw when I opened the door for that print. The plate had moved on the bed physically. Again thank you for your thoughts. I am going to try to glue this print, but if that doesn’t work I’ll try the support change.
I just looked at the 3mf file: Using grid is really the worst option, because this infill repeatedly hammers against the object to be printed, as it has crossing lines.
Grid This is one of the simplest and fastest variants of infill. Unlike rectilinear, it’s printed in both directions (rotated by 90°) in each layer. This way, material accumulates in spots where the paths cross. The grid infill is more solid (and has better layer adhesion) than the rectilinear infill, however, it sometimes can cause annoying noise or even a print failure due to the nozzle going over the crossings where material accumulates.

In addition, a wall thickness of 2 is really quite risky at that height, but that’s just a side note.
As support, I would personally go with the normal one in this case and not tree because of the extremely large area that’s affected. But that’s just a little note.

Or to put it briefly: You need to take a look at the settings, such as infill and wall thickness, as well as warping, as this could also have been a cause.
