Hi, I’m looking for advice. Do you know any manufacturers that sell engineering filaments (PA6 with glass fibres or carbon fibres) that are „pre dried” or require minimum drying before printing.
I had few jobs recently which were very urgent and I did not have time to dry the filament properly which resulted in bad appearance and possibly compromised quality/strength.
Yes I know about the existence of desiccants and sealed containers but I want to buy a roll or two that I can put on the shelf that will be ready when I need it without „maintenance”
3DXTech’s PA6-CF (Brand name CarbonX) came dry, mylar bagged, and ran fine (in an elegoo centauri carbon). I did print it from an enclosure that has activated alumina but didnt pre-dry. It was LOADED with CF, maybe bordering on too much. If youve printed petgcf and understand how that abrasiveness comes to the surface, this was like 20x that. An eye-opening amount of CF lol
A note on nylon’s strength post-printing, it will get better (more elastic compliance) after a couple days as it absorbs ambient humidity again. Fresh out of the printer (and cooled, to be clear) is actually it’s weakest, in case you were testing the part.
I’ll give it a try. Not readily available in the UK but I don’t need much of it. It’s just for „emergencies”
I have used Overture’s Easy Nylon, which is PA6 and relatively inexpensive, straight out of the box. It may not be the best nylon but it is easier to print with than other nylon filaments and less expensive, although there is not a CF or GF version.
My favorite has been the prusament pa11. Really prints like a dream, but you will pay for it.

I’ve ordered a roll of 3dxtech obsidian pa6cf. It has very good reviews and few people mentions that it requires minimum amount of drying.
