Those are ASA supports, so they dont bond to PA, come off very easy even with 0 z-top distance. Similar to breakaway support for PA, but big advantage is I can use the same color, so no different color (bright lime for support for PA) residue left behind.
One of the major reasons I was very excited about the H2D, custom made for my workflow. And now i can do complex parts from PA6/PET/PPA with breakaway black ASA supports with the dual nozzles as those materials are not AMS compatible so it was not possible at all with X1/P1 with a single nozzle.
That makes more sense! That is why I am looking at it too. I just didnât see the difference in the filament and thought the raft was the same material.
I printed some PPS-CF today and it came out great. Made the polymkaker bell and it rings just like metal. I printed it at 340c, no annealing. Here is the model if anyone is interested.
Quick tip to anyone printing PPS or PPA. Flush out the hot end with some cleaning filament otherwise next time you try to print PLA or another low temp material you will have problems. I use the stuff they include as a sample with Ziro filament. You want to start at 330c and when you see white/clear filament coming out turn it down to 260c while its extruding.
@maximit Have you used any dissolvable supports yet? I was looking at slicing times while I wait until I can get the H2D but I keep getting this error trying to use BVOH or PVA with PAHT-CF. Does this error really apply to the H2D using one nozzle per filament?
Ive used PVA before and it was quite bad, did not dissolve fully just turned into this fibrous mess that was very hard to remove. Have not had a chance to try BVOH yet but it should be better from what I hear, just a lot more expensive. Also keep in mind you will be saturating the nylon with moisture, unless its PA12 it will weaken it significantly. I mostly use ASA as support material for nylon as they dont bond together and it works as breakaway supports very well.
Good tip, thank you. If on the contrary one prints ASA-CF, would you also suggest the same combo in the other direction, that is to say PA6 or PA12 (without carbon fiber) as the support interface? I canât find any dedicated support for ASA and donât want to mess with limonene (to dissolve hIPS) at this point.
Bambu âsupport for ABSâ which is HIPS based works very well as breakaway support on ABS/ASA, no need for limonene as it snap away pretty clean usually. You could try plain nylon as support material but it is notorious for being very hard to print without the CF. You might be able to use it as just the interface layer, I have not tried it before as I had good results with support for ABS.
ABS and ASA have very similar molecular structure they are almost interchangeable, ASA just adds UV resistance. âSupport for ABSâ according to the MSDS data sheet is 95-99% HIPS, and HIPS is the recommended support material for ASA.
