Paht-cf support settings

Does anyone have good support settings? These worked good but are not coming off. I have to slide a razor blade across them to get the final small stubs off.

Use ABS/ASA as support interface material, it works like breakaway supports as they dont stick to nylon. You can choose “Support for PA” temporarily as interface layer to adjust all the appropriate settings automatically, then swap back to ABS/ASA.

Sorry when you say to choose support for PA then swap back I’m not following you. Do you mean to to slice with the setting support for PA and then use ASA in the printer? Sorry I’m new to using all these different materials. I have only printed with PLA and ABS for 10 or so years with support just for them. I have never used any color but black in all that time as well lol

If you choose “support for pa” as “support/raft interface” in “support” subsection it will give you a pop up and ask if you want to adjust the setting automatically, you can click yes. A bunch of setting like top z-distance will be auto-adjusted for materials that do not stick to each other. After you do that you can swap the “support/raft interface” to ABS or ASA and keep the modified settings. Thats the best way to use ABS or ASA as support material for nylon.

This. It’s exactly what I’m doing right now for PAHT prints. It works amazing and the area where the part and the interface material meet break away and it looks almost flawless. It’s amazing.

If you’re going to try Support for PA/PET, make sure to remove it as quickly as possible — once it absorbs moisture from the air, it’ll cling to your print like its life depends on it.

Really, do you know why that is?

It is probably because PA is highly prone to absorbing moisture from the air.

When printing with supports, it is best to remove them within 2 hours to prevent them from softening due to moisture and becoming difficult to remove. This is particularly important for PA-type filaments such as PA-CF, PAHT-CF, PA6-CF, etc., which readily absorb moisture. If the support has been left in place for too long and becomes difficult to remove, it is recommended to dry the entire print and remove the support after it has completely cooled down.

I had this issue when printing PPA-CF with that support. But even directly after printing it didn’t want to come loose.
I tried a 0.2 offset for the top layer, but still no succes.

Going to try ASA/ABS, but not sure if it will like the 300C of the PPA.

But a simple test is quickly done.

I can tell you it won’t be an issue. I use HIPS with PC, which is ~280C nozzle temp, and it breaks free of that without issue. Even when I leave the prints in the chamber for 10+ hours while I’m away.

I understand HIPS isn’t ABS, but close enough. The temp difference between HIPS and PC is probably close between ABS and PPS
