Hi,
I cannot seem to (a) paint brims only where I want to paint them? Is there even functionality that lets you manually paint brims OTHER than the Brim Ears button?
(b) cannot get brim ears to work or put the brims on all the corners that I want. The software lets me put or guide the brim ears to a corner, but then… when I slice the plate, the brim doesn’t show up??? What does the “white” vs. “red” colors mean when putting on brims via the brim ears button/functionality?
By the way… what button on the toolbar (06/25) is to the right of the Support Paint button, and to the left of the Text button? When I rest the mouse over it, the mouse covers up the tool tip, and I can’t find a slicer manual???
Brimless in Birmingham
You need to set the Brim type to “Painted” for the mouse ear brims to be added when slicing.
I there a reason you don’t want to use the standard generated brim?
Wiki has the most comprehensive info.
First… thanks for the pictures, and your help.
Areas of the part do not need a brim; this is from the experience of trying or starting to print it several times… only the narrow areas of less width are warping up; those are the only areas that need brim.
In fact… when I use “auto brim”, the thin narrow part doesn’t get a brim…and it warps as shown in the picture.
Problem: I am TRYING to use the brim ears functionality; but when I put a brim on a corner, I get an “Warning: 1 invalid brim ears” label displayed. What makes something “invalid”? It’s so frustrating.
Here’s the results of trying to “paint” the brim ears. I have tried various settings and seem to get the same results
I tried to replicate roughly your part and use your settings. I couldn’t get it to fail.
I could not set the detection radius above 2.0, so maybe that was what was causing the error?
Isn’t that crazy.
That’s why I asked about the manual. What is the direction radius??
I shut down my bambu studio and restarted it, but that didn’t change anything.
What version/platform are you using?
I think it’s the latest (as of 06/26/2025) it’s 2.1.0.59
I have tried have Bambu Labs generate the brim (Auto) - or ask for outer brims. But as I stated before… it skips or does not put brims on the narrow parts that are warping…
If it isn’t generating a brim it’s because it’s not a face that is actually on the bed. This would probably explain the red Brim Ears and why it is warping so badly. It’s trying to print in mid air. Use the slider on the right hand side of the preview to see each layer. I’m willing to bet the first player doesn’t have the “wing” on it.
Use the “Move” tool to drop the part into the bed a layer or two and see if it will generate then.
You may not even need a brim.

Usually Studio will generate a warning when this happens.
Here is layer 2.
And how the Auto Brim generates.
I was also able to generate the red brim ear with the floating section
OK…ahhh man. Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!
I looked back at my design in Fusion 360, and I know, but I know, but I know… the sides are flat; and they are… HOWEVER…
Look - the little oval part on the top, sticks out past the side just a little bit; and THIS is what is preventing the flat part of the side from laying flat on the print plate.
Look… I extruded the sides out like 0.05 inches; and NOW look at my part on the plate. You can call me Brim Master 5000.
Once again - Thank you!!! for your help
