I made this screwdriver bit holder based loosely around an old and discontinued commercial design (Stanley tools)
The “top” plate (screwdriver end with the hole) doesnt seem to be sticking to the rest of it and breaks off with minor force, the bottom plate is fine and I cant break it off even with considerable force
as you can see in the attachment, the inner part of left side (the bottom) prints smoothly whereas the right side which has supports is quite rough
I cant see why the top and bottom should be different except that the top plate needs support…
The cage is printed in PETG
I have printed it in .28 draft here to exaggerate the problem
If you had any ideas or suggestions I’d be grateful
As an experiment I sliced the top section off and printed it “upside down” and the parts are joined perfectly and super strong….so it seems to be problem with the supports and overhang
Cant see how to resolve that as it needs to be printed standing upright
I’m a little confused. Why print the frame in one piece? Pics show standard petg supported overhang, so everything is as anticipated off the printer. Comment seems to reflect a different anticipation. No pics on individual parts in need of assembly, however, this would likely not change my advice to print overhang as a separate part if the overhang texture is not acceptable.
Try tweaking the support parameters? Reduce the support Z distance a bit, so it’s closer to the part, and decrease the spacing between the top layers of support. Perhaps try a difference support top layer pattern.
There was talk of a support top-layer ironing option, but I can’t remember if it’s in Bambu Studio yet.
There might be some benefit in modelling your own support: something I’ve done to good effect when the auto-generated support doesn’t quite work.
Generally, though, supported underneath layers are difficult to get looking nice.
