Persistent Workspace Rulers

Feature Request: Persistent Workspace Rulers

Summary: Implement persistent rulers along the X, Y, and Z axes of the viewport, similar to the “Rulers” feature (Ctrl+R) in Adobe Photoshop or CAD software.

Rationale: While the “Measure” tool exists, it requires manual interaction for every check. Persistent rulers would allow for instant visual feedback on model dimensions, placement, and spacing without extra clicks.

Key Requirements:

  • Toggle Visibility: A shortcut or menu option to show/hide rulers at the edges of the 3D viewport.

  • Dynamic Scaling: Rulers should update based on the zoom level, showing finer increments as the user zooms in.

  • Zero-Point Alignment: The “0” mark should align with the build plate origin (e.g., front-left corner or center, depending on printer settings).

  • Unit Support: Clearly display units in millimeters (mm).

  • Guide Lines: Ability to drag “guides” from the rulers onto the build plate to assist with manual alignment of multiple parts.
