PetG buildup on original 0,4 nozzle X1C

First the obvious, it is high quality filament and it is dried. Cracked open new rolls and rolls of different colors, all dried. Still get buildup on nozzle and end up with horrible malformities and have to ditch the prints (every other) as some are beyond usability.

Howdy mates, suddenly starting to get blobs on the nozzle printing out the same PetG brands I printed out since the dawn of my dual X1C’s. (Easily have +700 rolls PetG through the set pair, maybe a few rolls other filaments the first printer/first week.)

For settings I have run over 700 rolls with 3-4 walls, 25% infill with the only real toggled alternative support or not support and different kind of supports if necessary. Standard speed, pherhaps 2-3 rolls on Sportmode for the heck of it to impress our buddies to upgrade to Bambu printers. But nothing more exciting than that, not that I can think of anyway. Mostly been interested in great print qualities so thats about where stayed within my comfort zone/limits. And it worked so far…

(In case anyone notice my recent post. Dont think its relevant but both printers literally suddenly made deep scratches in my golden textured plates just recently like a MONTH back, but I dont think this was related to the blobbing on the nozzle issue NOW, posted aboot and solved separately a few maybe 4-6 weeks prior to this blobbing issue were adressing now. Rolled back firmware, reboots asf
Full maintenance done, new 0,4mm bambu original nozzles with brand new socks and yet another set nozzles now. Sry pherhaps writing poorly, decked in migraine since thursday.)

They both started behaving this way at the same time a couple of weeks back.
Pre-emptively dried and tried eSun, Stronghold, AzureFilm, Radius, RED and Sunlu and ALL with different rolls/color within each brand…

Might add blobbing occur in both current and prior firmware, using the standard setting 0,2 OR my tweaked setting for each filament. If temp is the issue this it is so both in prior and current FW and in different nozzle settings, standard and fine tuned settings, also occuring in both printers at the precise same time. Feel like I’m missing something bloobby obvious, but like I said on a migraine since thursday. So mates youre definitely the bosses of these printers and printing whatsoever at all, nothing you cant figure out (learning from this awesome forum) and I really need your sharp minds if you so kindly would share your thoughts or what next step you would take?

Thus I turn to you mates, am at my wits end, and I need your expertize.
How do I solve the blobbing issues and make them behave as wonderful as they have up till recently?

Oh yeah, other random details;
Drying with Sunlu and dual Eibos filament dryers @ 70Celsius and both are modded and motorized to spin the rolls, I do about 10hrs drying time. It is below minus - 30 C outside and running an EESE air dehumidifier so the air is insanely dry indoors. Were talking lips and fingertips cracking and dry tongue dryness - which pherhaps helps the drying speed further. Oh both dryers are modded with airflow type modest to assist drying procedures.

Also I only own 0,4mm hardened steel original bambu nozzles (About 20 complete sets, and I additionally swap silicone socks pre-emptively since this clearly is an issue that can cause nozzleblobs)

I checked that it bambu studio is set to 0,4mm nozzles and PetG,
I use the original bambu settings Standard 0,4 or Strong 0,4,
I also have a tweaked profile for each filaments brand & color’s flowrate.
However now that both has gone wild I opted to return to Bambu PetG Standard that always has worked on both printers flawless. (The tweaked flowrate profiles only helped getting supersmooth print surfaces and some better overhangs, in particular supportless overhangs)

I toggled back to the previous firmware through bambuhandy,
I toggled back to the firmware previous to that also.
(3 different firmwares if counting the latest)
Erased Bambu Studio and re-installed bambu studio.

Obviously I very early zeroed all settings to factory so I would not miss anything underlaying hidden settings, and just fixed settings that I know and that has worked all the time up until possibly now.

I have done no manual tweaking of the G-Codes or anything I am an ignorant tard aboot.
(I have had thoughts about doing the Scrubbler 3.4 wiper mod and copy and paste the suggested g-code in to my printing profiles, starting with one to begin with. But have not done that yet and only come as far as thinking about it, so hopefully my beloved X1CC’s arent clairvoyant I hope thats not something to take in regard.)

Out of all the brands of PetG (And I believe I have tried any and all that are of quality brands) my printers has loved chewing on Stronghold the absolute most despite their pricetags and nonexistant sales. So my latest attempt is I cracked a brand new roll of yellow Stronghold PetG HS and put it in the dryer for +20hrs (had it set on 24, but I got impatient) and corked it in to my first X1C that has been acting up just a tad more than the latter, newer sibling. The above dried roll made a print that virtually just popped out as grand on the below pic…

And that is where me, my migraine and my twin set of beloved X1CC’s are @ right now in this point of time and geography…

You say you’ve dried the filament but don’t give any details how. The problem is many use procedures that don’t actually dry filament well. The key things you said are that you saw multiple printers exhibit problems at the same time and PETG. PETG loves water. If you didn’t update firmware or software, it is likely something else common to both printers like filament. PETG shows water effects easily if not well dried. It also gets sticky and curly and can stick to nozzles. Thing is your issues line up a bit with water.

New spools aren’t a fix/known either. The plastic bag is semi-permeable to water and the silica gel they pack with a spool may be “wet” by the time you open the spool. There’s an easy humidity test you can use to see where your filament is water-wise. Seal a spool and hygrometer in a ziplock bag and check the humidity after it stops changing. Ziplocks themselves are semi-permeable but short term for this test won’t matter. Curious what numbers your filament generated if you are willing to do the test.

No idea on the build plate strikes. Maybe it’s something else for that or all related.

Given it is happening to all filaments then:-

Definitely worth a fallback to previous firmware just to prove it is firmware or not.

Also check that all your settings in BambuLab are as previous BambuLab version. I always keep a copy in Excel for quick comparison.

Check your strength/ infill wall overlap is set to 15% or less. Sometime you get a bulldozing effect over x layers; this will lead to a build up of filament, especially if a tall project.

You do not say which brand the filament is but check the purging / flushing is as before or pressure.

Only if firmware was updated recently though and it could fit with before and after issues appeared. If no firmware update was done then it’s likely not a firmware issue.

no you don’t have to format your hard disk and reinstall windows to solve this

Agreed but funny how both printers started to hit the build plate. Suggest software or firmware change happened beforehand or maybe some form of power issue to both

he’s using the same slicer software for both devices that scratched the plate ?

yes → he banally screwed some settings without noticing and he’s continuing to use them. (not printer’s panel settings, more like filament settings/printing profile)

no → ghosts

or he’s using 0.6 previously saved setup on 0.4 nozzles, or a custom gcode? who knows

I can tell you one thing for sure, wet petg gives bad walls and some stringing but nothing like that.

If I have to place a bet, I bet on a crippled custom gcode, not in the printers panel.

theres actually two issues from the buildup etc 1 is the grinded golden textured plates 2 is that the sudden blob issue hitting the scene messes up my prints and turn them in to various spaghetti monsters/layershifts/knock objects off the plates.

Reply; Nope thats a correct reading, have +10.000 hrs printing PetG exclusively in all brands, shapes and colors that could be crammed in to the printer. Also I have done fresh specific saves per each color/speed/brand (Like eSun PetG vs eSun PetG HS has different saved optimizations asf)

Reply; I run factory settings for Bambu lab PetG with set speeds/extrusion (also downloaded availible tweaked savings per brand and colors) then have separate saves optimized and tuned in my respective X1C. Everything worked ridicilously flawless and amazing until now - profiles not changed lately but still the above conundrum popped up and left me flabbergasted. Cant figure this one out - I think?!? (I did the fourth complete maintenance following everything and his uncles aunt could conjure up in these youtube tutorials)

Reply; Quite literal and to the dot, this popped up after a firmware update. (See details countering this in replies herein, basically reset all settings, reinstalled everything, rolled back firmware & BS studio version repeated first one, then two releases back. Tried thoroughly and went forward once, still bugging out than to current up to date releases.

Reply; Correct sir, the Bambu Studio original software for the X1C’s. I did back two BS studio versions and backed firmware through handy-phoneapp. (After resetting everything to factory settings)

Only ran original hardened steel 0,4 nozzles and had quite a few as I regularly filled up spare parts drawers. Nozzles has been swapped 4 times in each printer during every deep maintenance.

I can tell you one thing for sure, wet petg gives bad walls and some stringing but nothing like that.
Have Sunlu & Cyclopes driers, both modified with fans and motors that spins the rolls and I dry all PetG at 65-70C depending on brand and recommendations. (Also have a ridicilous amount of dryboxes for both AMS’s and the inside printing area of the X1C’s (both of course))

If I have to place a bet, I bet on a crippled custom gcode, not in the printers panel.
Reply; Thank you, how do I remedy such code and if that happened through corrupted downloads? would these still remain after all the resets, reboots, firmware rollbacks asf? I know nothing about how that would work so any help how to solve this would be utmost welcome.

Status quo; I ordered some silicone pads for the A1 and printed out some version of upgrades “Nozzle Wiper 3.4” asf, will try these and see if they help out any. (Now the wiping is only in the start of the print but that slow blob buildup seems like an unstoppable happenstance thus fear these will not help. Well that and possibly damage new nozzle assemblies?)
Prints are somewhat better now, but I’m not getting those shiny perfect top surfaces, but the spaghettimonster does not appear with the same tight intervalls, I can get a pair of printplates out with single objects before whoopis rasta shadows beseiges the smoked door glass of the X1C’s :slight_smile:
