PETG-HF green not good?

So I have started to order Bambu filaments instead of other brands, and I have been happy so far, until this weekend. I recently ordered Yellow, Blue, and Green PETG-HF filaments, to allow for more variety of what I print (and less painting in most cases).

At first I had some issues with the Yellow (which I got first). I mainly design and print Jeep ducks, so Yellow is a good base (since painting things yellow is a pain). On some of my ducks, the top surfaces (even with setting 5+ top layers) would have holes. I soon found out that my SUNLU drier maxed out at 45 degrees, and it is suggested that PETG be dried at 65 degrees. So I got a new drier, and future prints have turned out really good.

Next was blue, but for a different project. I dried it for +12 hours, and it printed great. So this weekend I craked open the green. I have been working on some ducks that would be more green that any other color, and so I dried the green for about 14 hours. My first print had pretty bad results. The uppward curved surfaces were horrible, and the top of the head had holes. So I though, maybe I did not dry it long enough. So I then set it to dry for over 24 hours. I even printed it with the filament coming out of the drier. Still the same issue.

Did I get a bad roll of filament? I printed the same model in purple generic PLA, and it came out clean. I am currently drying my blue to try it again tomorrow. If the blue prints fine, then the only thing I can say is that the product is bad… Is there a way to get it replaced?

It may be a bad spool.
Having the same filament (only different colours) and the issue relating to one is likely the case.
If your blue colour test confirms, contact BL support ASAP and explain the issue. I am unsure if there were changes, but most likely, photos of the problem are necessary to present the case to support.

Some recommendation:
I am always uncertain about the drying time and wetness when referring only to time and temperature. I prefer mass verification within the drying cycle to verify if it is properly dried. While the mass drops, I continue drying.
In your case, relying only on BL filaments would be easier as you can use previous values to know how much a dried filament + spool should weigh.

I don’t have a scale I can use, but I dried the filament for over 48 hours. To me this seems a bit excessive, but I wanted to be sure. Still having the same issues, but only with PETG. Same print in PLA is great… :frowning:

Have you considered creating a support ticket?

ok, so its been a few weeks. This issue is with all PETG that I have. So I am not sure where to go with this. the issue is with curved surfaces. So if I were to print a ball, the bottom overhands are bad and the top surface has holes.

Again, this is only with PETG. I have dried the PETG for 4 days straight at 63 degrees. I can’t believe that moisture is an issue. after that. Sorry, I don’t have a good scale to test the weight difference.

Could it be a temperature issue? Either not cooling right or nozzle temp? The only thing that stands out since this started to happen was that I had to remove a jam, and took the nozzle apart. I get no temp errors, but could incorrect temps cause this? I am using Bambu Studio’s pre-set filament settings.

You’ve dried your filament longer than I have. I’ve noticed no loss in weight on the HF filament after 36 hours, drying at ~63°C…

I’ve had no issues with blue, red, black, or green. Occasionally, printing white spools, I’ll have a strand or two pull away around the inner most diameter of the spool.

I do tend to print with bed temps 5-10° higher, nozzle temps is whatever’s in Bambu profile.

thanks for the reply. I think I may try doing some test prints of just the heads here and vary the temp by 5 degrees each time. I don’t usually do my own calibrations but with what you see, is the bridging failing on the top of the head due to being too hot or too cold? Or maybe cooling?

So after some time off (dealing with life stuff) I came back to this. I did a temp tower just to check things and funny, there was little to no stringing (stringing is often a sign of damp filament) but the bridging failed at every temp.

I got a tip from someone. Seems the part fan cable was not seated properly and must have come loose during the vibration testing. Funny, I didn’t get any errors showing it was not working.

I reseated the cable and now all is good again. Just incase someone else runs into this.
