Petg-hf imperfections

I swicthed over to petg-hf to print a mandalorian helmet for my daughter. I had a print fail half way through but want to fix this other issue before continuing. For some reason i can see all my start stops (seams). I put it on random seams instead of lined up. In my mind I think its stronger that way but now i havw these little dots everywhere. Anyone know why or how to fix it?

Have you turned random seam on? Looks exactly like that

Random seams is what you are seeing. I would also look into how dry your filament is as PETG is susceptible to moisture which will degrade printing results. Do not assume filament is dry right out of the package.

If there is a corner or place where the seams would be less noticeable you can rotate the model until that region is oriented to the rear of the printer and set the seam position to rear.

And what Jon said about PETG HF is very true - it loves water and when “wet” will create doughy looking surfaces, models will like to lift in corners and the filament strings and leaves wisps.

The stuff about brand new filament is also true - fresh out of the shipping bag it can be too wet to print properly. Plastic bags are generally permeable to water and water will pass right through the bag to be picked up by the filament.

The packet of desiccant inside the bag is to help scavenge water but it likely rode a slow boat across the pacific in ocean humidity and sat for indeterminate times in warehouses at either end.

Your model looks good for humidity though. The only thing that might be an effect I see is along the lower edge of that ridge at the top of the photo but that’s minor and might not be water.

Also, you can tune seams a bit. It could be that some calibration might get better looking random seams but you might be happier with a rear seam in a less noticeable area.

How does I move the seam to a particular spot. I didnt know that was an option.

The Bambu wiki has a great article about seams and the different things you can do. Seam painting is the section you will probably be most interested in. Ideally and inside corner is the best location for a seam.
