PETG Settings vs Actual

I am new to 3D Printing (1.5 weeks). This is my first attempt at printing with PETG. I created a profile, based on the filament (Micro Center, inland PETG Grey), and when I printed a test swatch; it began lifting almost immediately from the print bed.

I then decided to just use the “Bambu PETG Profile” and it printed. However the bottom layer was not (for lack of a better way to say it) smooth. I don’t know what you call it, but I could see individual traces of filament. The 2nd layer filled in the gaps. I was OK with that as it was just a swatch for the filament color/type. The swatch completed and it usable, but the bottom right corner lifted off of the print bed.

It’s my understanding that the print bed is not hot enough for adhesion of the filament.

BAMBU STUDIO SETTINGS:
Nozzle Setting: 230 C (min) 270 C (max)
Textured PEI Plate Temp: Initial Layer 70 C Other Layers 70 C

BAMBU P2S ACTUAL:
Nozzle Temp: 220 C
Textured PEI Plate Temp: 55 C

Any advice/assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Just my opinion but it sounds like your build plate isn’t clean. PETG is easy and I have less adhesion problems with it than I do PLA. Well for me it sticks to the build plate too good.

I should have included in my question. I washed the plate with dish soap and water between the initial attempt and the Bambu PETG profile.

I am more curious in why the Nozzle & Print Bed Temp’s don’t match between what was set to what was actually used by the printer.

The 70c build plate and 240-250 nozzle should work good. So I would look else where, as mentioned it could be under extrusion run the calibration and dial in you flow ratio,

So I re read your post, definitely a concern, looks like you may not have your filament profile selected properly?

Just in case anyone is interested :grinning_face:, (you didn’t ask, but I am going to tell you anyway) my wife ordered some colors of filament for her project that came in 250g rolls. She printed out a 250g-to-1Kg spool in PLA. When I ran the dehumidifier in the AMS, it warped the spool. I purchased some PETG so that I could reprint the spool. I always do a test swatch before ruining a batch of filament.

Most Inland Filament is made by Polymaker. Thats why you are looking for a polymaker profile.

All your cooling settings have to be tweaked for sure.

Aux must be zero all the time.
Part fan Min 20 max 40
Aux fan better if zero and print with open door and top of possible.

If temp in the room is lesser than 23°c the issues start to ramp up

Are you certain you applied the PETG filament to the part in Studio rather than a PLA?
Or that the PETG roll is correctly declared in the AMS through the printers screen?

Both are common root causes when finding that the printer is trying to lay down PETG with PLA settings…

Easy error to overlook when multiple materials are loaded. Especially for similar colors. Happened to a lot of us (amhik) :wink:

PS: Addendum: Also, before going for PETG, give it a good drying run in a dryer or on the printers print bed. Especially new filament is frequently moist. And PETG tends to be particularly unforgiving in this regard (nozzle clumping, bed adhesion, warping, curling, stringing, oozing, sagging,…).

The machine’s UI looks like it is still set to PLA. (220/55)

Double check / Send a screenshot of this page from your project as you go to print it, make sure PETG is showing up. You might need to right click on your project model and assign filament → filamentname, in case you have many colors that all look the same in preview.

I have learned, the hard way, to never say always, but I am pretty certain that it was set to PLA. That was my problem on the first attempt, I set PETG, but did something and it reverted to PLA.

BINGO!!! It was PLA Basic. Newb’ mistake. Bambu Studio was correct, the the printer said, “Not so fast.”

I actually haven't done this just yet.  I will admit that I was in a hurry to print.

New plan:

  1. Set the printer to the correct filament type. (done)
  2. Dehumidity the PETG filament. (in progress)
  3. Check the fan settings.
  4. Cross my fingers and hope for the best.
