Hello! New to these 3D printers. Been using an ender 3 for years and decide to get a P1P. Brand new out of the box. I’m having problems with boogers when it does it’s initial calibration before a print.
Extrudes into the waste bin for a few seconds at 250c
Cools down to 220 with fan going
Wipes, snaps off clean.
Sits for a second and during that time maybe a millimeter of PLA comes out
Wipes again and pushes that PLA onto the side of the nozzle a little
Then it goes to the next area which I presume is to clean the end of the nozzle before leveling. But before it does that more PLA runs out and just smears all over the nozzle and bed.
Just hoping for a suggestion on maybe some gcode changes because I basically have to catch the booger before it starts printing
Your PLA has absorbed too much moisture from the air and needs to be dried out. The moisture in the filament turns to steam in the hot-end and that drives filament out of the nozzle even though the printer isn’t extruding.
PLA doesn’t really soak it up like some other filaments like Nylon. But you have no idea what conditions were present when it went in to the bag, or the conditions present when it was sitting in the bag in a warehouse someplace. So it might not have soaked it up very fast at all, but it has been sipping water for a long time…
Very often(almost aways for me) a new filament has some moisture . So i stared as a habit to do the following: i open a bag dry it for at least 5h , but i usually open previous day and put in the drier for 18h , this is the maximum hours i can program it for. And put it in the AMS or in the DRY box next day( just a good plastic box with 500g of desiccant and good seal) . i have two dry boxes with capacity 4 to 8 rolls plus the AMS and two eSUn driers. on average i keep around 10-16 rolls open and ready to use , but one of the driers i use as a direct infeed to a Prusa and keep it on all the time while printing in the lowest setting. If the filament is left in the drier with out use for more than 24h , i turn it on as still gets some moisture inside , trying to put it in the drier box but lazy sometimes
