PLA silk... totally lost

So… I’ve been playing with silk bla from bambu, geetech and hatchbox.
I worked through the manual filament calibration for the silk i’m using here, did the k factor and flow test. done all the calibrating that makes sense and recently did a temperature tower. I’m struggling because when the temperature is low, the silk looks nice n glossy yet I get horrendous warping and sagging, when I turn up the heat to be rid of this, I lose the shine. In the images in my skull you will see even the infill has all the warping/ghosting. I know this is not a printer problem because regular prints such as the calibration cube, you don’t see any of this. It seems to be an issue with silk only.

Here is a better tempt tower I got to NOT tip over, sorry my camera is not great. contrary to what I thought was happening on my first tower, as the temp goes up, the shine goes up HOWEVER, once the shine comes in so does the wrinkles/ghosting. So what can I do about this? print at 225 and blast the fan to 100% the whole print?

I print Silks at 215* myself…215* looks good on your towers also.
But, it also looks like you might have some extrusion issues or a slight clog.

I have also never used Bambu Silk, haven’t found a need to yet.

I’ve noticed this bambu stuff compared to other brands really has a hard time extruding, it soaks up into the nozzle as soon as it stops extruding, like a thick lugi. Here is a tower printed with some hatchbox… MUCH better looking. Is this a bad spool of bambu? It’s been dried… A LOT. I agree it does look clogged buts its really not. 0.4 nozzle.
This tower has less ringing, and I noticed with both tower the ghosting is lessened on the back… I noticed that in my skull prints too. I turned my accelerations down to around 400 for each one, print speed 40. Looks like acceleration needs to be even slower? Is this roll of bambu no good?
Also notice the brims… on the bambu the prim didn’t even complete at the seam line. This stuff is SUPER thick for some reason.



Here we go… after nailing the temperature and playing around I am getting the EXACT same thing in the EXACT same area. Printing extremely slow 40mms and accelerations down to 300.

Different filament brand. Does anyone know what is going on here? Is it wall order? Should I do be doing inner/outer? I do outer inner for quality, but perhaps in wall is getting reheated and moving?

If changing the print orientation doesn’t help, then this is most likely a cooling issue.

I think I solved it… its layers. Doing inner then outer solves the problem. My reason: Doing the outer layer then putting a hot inner layer behind it is causing the outer wall to sag out… I am doing a skull still with issues but I will post replies soon. Again sorta new to this, I thought outer wall first meant longer printer times and better quality. Maybe I confused that with more precision?

Among many other things, inner/outer gives the outer wall something to hang onto for overhangs. outer/inner does not enjoy the same advantage, and at moderate angles just rolls off the edge.

Problem fixed! not saying this model is “perfect” or even good, but the wrinkling is gone. Gotta do inner walls first it looks like
