Plate is too far below the nozzle but just sometimes?

I’ve had this happen a few times this week. Ironically always with the Bambu matte black which has been in AMS slot 2. I’m still pretty new at this. The printer is about 6 weeks old with 177 hours.

I’ve run 4 jobs today with no issue, but using the 3 other colors/slots. I start a 5th of this model Open Vase for 3D printed flowers by Alfonzo - MakerWorld making no changes to it except for changing the printer to Bambu Lab P1s 0.4 nozzle. I don’t change any filiment settings. Side note I’m not sure yet what the right answer is when prompted to keep modified values or discard them when changing the printer/nozzle to match what I have.

The vase print started, the first layer is put down but then the gap between the plate and the nozzle becomes too large. The filliment is extruding into the air. At least I noticed it this time, I was printing a spool 2 nights ago, a model I have printed many times, that time in the same matte black and that job failed about 76% of the way through, the top 3rd of the model was missing. Filiment flow seemd to be bad, I suspected a clog so I cleaned the printer, and purged the nozzel. I ran a test job with another color and sucessfully printed something in the black later all seemed normal.

This print today was only a few layers in, assuming it was an extruding issue, a moisture issue, or a filiment jam the bed still seemed far lower than I it should have been.

I pull the matte black from slot 2 and its in the dryer, it says 15%. I loaded PLA Basic silver into slot 2 and printed the spool clip file I use as my tester, that prints perfect. Am I missing something obvioius here? Is this my first bad spool? Maybe I don’t understand something about the model settings?

Try printing hotter and slower.
If that doesn’t work then I don’t know what will.

Thanks @rowenrohan, I’ll give it a go its worth a try. That matte black has printed beautifully when I’ve had good jobs.Consistancy hasn’t been super

I may be over my matte filament expriment for a while. I can consistantly get inconsistant results. The nozzle purges ok manually setting the temp to 250. I’ve tried nozzle temps as high as 240 in filiment profiles and printing the red managed to get even worse. An item I use for swatches that I printed in the Matte Red failed two times in a row. I’ve dried the rolls twice each. That first prime line is slow and perfect, some times the first few layers are ok and then the nozzle gets blocked or something else goes wrong and the filiment stops extruding or extrudes poorly. Switch to PLA Basic and change nothing else, not even turning the printer off an on, I get great a print the very next try. I can accept this may be a noob issue, I’ve only printed PLA Basic until this point.

P1S, AMS, .4 nozzle, I went through the maintence routuine today for good measure, no change.

The saga continues until these rolls are empty.

Last night failure on a print at 90%, reduced speed by 100 across the board. Color change to black and it didn’t adhere well and stopped extruding about 20 layers from finish anyway.

I read about printing pla with the door open. Tried it today, still at the reduced speed, and the red and black failed to stick and everything basically fell over. Even the purge tower split at the color change. Positive - red never seems to have quit
