It is my understanding that when you choose Plate Type in Bambu Studio this tells the slicer the distance from nozzle to the plate?
If this assumption is correct, let’s discuss Plate type thickness.
The Textured PEI plate would be (among) the thinnest plate types?
The Smooth PEI Plate would be among the thicker plate types?
In your store you sell a Dual-Texture PEI Plate. This type of plate is a mix of the 2 above Plate types and logically would be somewhere in the middle considering its plate thickness?
My final question is why this Dual-Texture plate is not an option in Bambu Studio?
It doesn’t matter how thick your plate is because normally you run a bed mesh before every print and the printer sets the zero where the nozzle touch the plate.
What you change by choosing the plate is the z-offset. You can simply look at the start gcode under your machine settings and you will find this section where for example it sets a z-offset of 0.03mm for the textured PEI plate.
This means your Z 0 is 0.03 above the plate, in this case it is because of the PEI texture…
No the plate type doesn’t designate the distance. That is handled with bed probing. The plate type matters as there are different bed temperatures and “smoosh” values associated with each type of bed which the slicer uses to generate the gcode with.
Small correction: For textured plate, the offset is negative so it sets 0.03mm lower. That is because the bed levelling probes the hills of the plate and then is too high for the average of holls and valleys.
