Ah ok, I was not 100% sure. Keep in mind for the computer to have internet itself you will need to have a separate Eth port or additional Wifi. The Hotspot cannot run automatic you will need to most likely manually set it up. Same on the printer end.
In a similar boat here, Wireless is insecure, and our company refuses to support devices on older protocols especially lacking 5GHz. An Ethernet port as an add-on would be very much appreciated!
In corporate environment that would be a big no no, violation of policy.
A usb or Ethernet is a must have going forward, would be really impressed if Bambu provide ugrade kit for current X series printers.
I am starting to see a pattern here. Why would anyone architect a machine that is WiFi only? That is unless there is more to the back story that hasn’t been told. On a physical connection, one can not only gets superior performance but it minimizes troubleshooting. It also is more security minded. I ditched the Handy app within a week once I found out that the files were first going into the cloud. I might have more trust if it weren’t for the fact that the company is ultimately under the auspices of the PRC.
I would like to see them back port the X1E LAN only mode the X1C along with firmware updates via SD Card so I have no need for the cloud at all. Bonus points for a Handy app version that can work on the local LAN only. A controller replacement for the X1C to add Ethernet would be great also but would probably be expensive and a PITA to install.
+1 this, just ordered my X1C and would LOVE an ethernet jack SOMEHOW, I hate inconsistent Wi-Fi is, even with an enterprise deployment here at home with my UniFi AP’s.
You should have ordered the X1E… which has an Ethernet jack.
I like Ethernet, but the X1E is $2500 and it’s not worth another $1k for a 100mb Ethernet port
As the original poster, I felt it prudent to do a follow-up. It seems I am far from the only person bothered by this design decision on the part of Bambu.
The postscript is that I did get it to work through our wifi by registering the Bambu’s MAC address in the school’s server pool. It sounds simple, but it really wasn’t. The most difficult part was “binding” the printer to my account; this simply wouldn’t finish via this pipeline. I had to link to a hotspot on my cellphone to do this specific task – thankfully it’s only required once.
Now I’m printing, viewing, etc. our three X1C printers via any internet connected device.
This is NOT how it should be, but Bambu seems to be turning a blind eye to all non-X1E customers in this regard. Poor business choice from my perspective.
I totally agree with you. In support of this post, I started a petition.
They have added an Ethernet socket to the X1E, maybe we might get an upgrade board!
I agree try putting Micro in machine when your 78 with tremors, oh I forgot 3 d printing is for the YOUNGER people!
+1, Im getting cant connect after the printer has been working fine for a couple of weeks, no changes to my network, I did everything in the wiki article. This is rubbish and making me miss my prusa+octoprint. When it works the printer is great but things like this make me want to return it.
What firmware are you using?
I ask because there are many reports recently tied to upgrades to the latest firmware that mimic your connectivity problems.
1.07.01, I saw your reply on another related thread suggesting to install an older version of studio. I am going to try that shortly.
Not sure that’s what I was suggesting. BL keeps adding important fixes and updates, I wouldn’t want to avoid those. My message was more to alert them to a problem (which by the way is not yet fixed).
It hasn’t caused me to lose anything, so I’m not panicking.
Neil
would love to see an implementation of ethernet on the P1S, way more connectivity issues than the X1C (withour ethernet, too)
Ive had my 2 x1c’s for over a year now and would gladly pay for a ethernet kit… Say $50? I wired my office for them before they showed up. I assumed they would have one. I do understand that most “consumers” Don’t even know what an ethernet port is. I hate using WIFI for our company devices. Please make a add on…I hear the x1 Plus firmware may add this. That would cause us to leave the walled garden. I love Bambu! I also appreciate your continued upgrades and fixes available to early adopters.
Get a X1E
That has what you want.
