That works well for standard shapes but let’s say (my experience…), you download a small house for a christmas village that is just a big block of plastic and you want it hollowed with a 3mm wall thickness for instance, BS does not have this option. I think it’s mainly an option you find in resin printing slicer but that could well apply to FDM as well and I’m sure some slicers have it.
What I did is download a SLA/DLP slicer (Chitubox 3D basic which is free), use any printer in settings, load my house in it, use the hollow feature, set the thickness and save the result as a new stl to print in BS. The house was way bigger than the plate of the slicer and overshot in all directions but although I’m sure you can set a bigger plate, for hollowing the slicer does not care.
The only issue was that BS was reporting thousands of non manifold issues that I did not fix because fixing just filled my hollow volume
Not as elegant an SLA slicer since they don’t deal with wall layers, but the feature is there in Bambu Studio. You just switch to zero % infill as JonRaymond suggested. Want 3mm wall thickness? just add more walls. Weirdly enough it was kind of hard to find a non hollow house to use as an example, but here’s one where I set to 0% infill and 7 walls which should be close to 3mm without adjusting line thickness.
What would make that process easier would be like in Cura where you can set wall thickness and the slicer automatically calculates how many walls you need. So maybe adding that would be a more elegant solution. Having a hollowing feature like Chitubox would be neat to have, but isn’t strictly necessary.
i dont think this i a solution u can compare… using more than 2 walls is no solution for me this take forever to print and uses to much filament it also doenst work with all models… also it dont let light shine through… i think the 0% infill works good for fake vase mode… but thats it…
