So, I’m printing this chess board, 2 colour, black and white. The first picture is layer 3 (solid), then layer 4 (infill). So why is it printing black infill under the part of white squares, as this shows through the white and it seems grey? By layer 6, everything is white. Note that the black squares are separate objects in the model, not just painted squares on the surface. Using H2D and Studio V2.5.0.64.

Are you sure the squares aren’t getting painted by Studio w/out your realizing? v2.5 has a habit of doing that and it’s been tripping folks up. Check if there’s a paint bucket icon anywhere in your objects list, to the right of the filament colors. If there is a bucket, click that and hit the “Erase all painting” button in the painting tool window. (Indeed, doing that 32 times could get annoying.)
If that’s not it… could you post more details?

The black squares are perfect, but when they end i.e. the rest of the model should be white, the slicer uses black infill for small areas under white squares resulting in “bleed through”. I have “Purge into objects infill” OFF and also “Beam interlocking” is OFF.
Regarding painting, the stl file is made from multiple objects. What I did was import the stl which came in as all black, and then I painted the “outside” (everything that is not black squares) white to create the board. I have tried changing the order of painting, but I still get the strange infill colour mis-matches.
I’m afraid you lost me on the procedure or what the final objects/painting ends up as in Studio… if you can post your project, that would go a long way. Painting will often mix colors undesirably, under the paint, depending on how it’s applied… it’s not always (usually) very precise. Assigning filaments to individual parts of a model is much cleaner, if the model is already made of separate parts of course. May be similar issue to Slicing assembly object with multiple colors shows weird shifting issue

I can fix this by changing the model to have only surface squares for the black and white portions instead of separate solids. If paint the black parts using the triangle tool, and using 5 layers as the Top paint penetration, it seems to slice it correctly. But, along the edge where the black and white squares are exposed, the slicer insists on adding increasing width white edge layers underneath the black painted areas e.g. this is layer 54/70.
As seen in the image “Infill overlaps” each of the black cuboids is a separate object in the 3D file. Each cuboid is 1mm thick, so that equates to 5 layers at my settings (even though the black back fill areas start at 0.6mm). Each black cuboid was painted black (using the Fill Tool) after the whole design was imported as white. But when you view the layers the slicer it insists on placing black infill under a few areas of white layers which results in “grey” areas, most noticeable when it even puts 45 degree parts in some areas. WHY?

The same solution applies here, IMHO. Why paint anything when the parts are already separate and can just be assigned a filament?
When I opened the project you attached, the whole board and all the parts were assigned to the green filament, not white. It seems all the colors were painted?
It’s nice that only the black parts are separate objects. Makes them easy to select.
So I erased all painting on the “Board Half 1st” object. With that selected, changed filament to white for all the parts. Then selected just the black squares in the object tree and changed their filament to black. Et voilá.

MaxThreeD Ah, I never thought to assign the separate objects to a filament using the object tree, I’ll bear that in mind for the future. My fix was that I removed all of the separate black parts from my model and just re-drew the squares and edge lines as surface patches. Then I could relatively easily paint the black areas using the triangle tool and set the paint penetration to 5 layers, to ensure good blacks. Result: perfect print.
