Poor layer quality when using both nozzles

I’m running into an issue where the layer quality of my prints becomes awful whenever both nozzles are used. This is typically for multicolor prints, but also occurs when using two rolls of the same filament brand and color on both nozzles.

Models that are printed with a single nozzle have good layer quality, and it doesn’t matter if it’s the left or the right nozzle doing the printing.

To verify this, I’ve conducted multiple calibration cube tests. A single color cube printed with either the left or right nozzle will be fine. A multicolor cube will have irregular layers. If I print a single color cube at the same time as a multicolor cube, both cubes will have irregular layers.

I have run the calibrations, including the precision nozzle offset calibration. I have tensioned the belts. Both nozzles are secure, and both nozzle clamps are secure and undamaged. There is no wiggle with the extruder head. I have tested with new and old filament, as well as calibrated and uncalibrated filament — there is no difference in the end results. If both nozzles are used during a print, my layer quality will suffer.

I have submitted a ticket to Bambu, but it’s 3-4 days between replies.

Does anyone have any ideas what may be causing this, and what I can try to resolve it?

I just completed a 23-hour print of a figure with 6 colors, 3 on each nozzle. If you can get images working, I’ll let you know if your quality seems way off.

Ugh, sorry about that. It worked when I posted, but something in one of the images triggered Imgur’s filter, so the whole thing was removed.

Another important test photo here. This one shows a cube printed with one nozzle, and you can see the layers are fine, and another cube printed using two nozzles, and the layers are bad.

On the other link there’s an image that has a cube with a black side next to a cube with a brown side. The black cube was printed using two nozzles, and the layer quality is poor. The brown cube was printed with a single nozzle (so there was lots of purging), and the layer quality is fine.

The image that has two bands of black shows good layer quality, but what’s not obvious is that if you run your finger along the cube, you can feel that the black layers are misaligned with the blue layers.

This definitely seems like a nozzle offset issue, but I’ve gone through all the troubleshooting I can think of with no change in results. I found a wiki page that said that after running the high precision nozzle offset calibration, that you should turn the nozzle calibration on the Print screen to Off (I previously had it set to Auto), which I’ve done, but no luck.

I also considered that this may be Z-banding, but if that were the case, I’d be seeing similar results on single nozzle prints, but those are coming out just fine on both the left and the right nozzle. This is only happening when both nozzles are used on a layer.

It’s now been 5 days since Bambu has responded to my ticket.

Finally heard back on my ticket, and they’ve requested I run the precision nozzle offset calibration and send them a picture of the results, as well as the printer log.

I also tried replacing both nozzles in the event it had something to do with them, ran full calibrations, but the problem still persists.

If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions, I’m all ears.

I have this issue with my H2D. Single works well, dual fails almost every time. It’s especially prominent when I use PVA.
I have other issues with the H2d that point to some major firmware issues.

Does anyone notice anything that might indicate what the issue is? As far as I can tell it’s normal, although I suppose the black side might look a bit odd right where it meets the white? What should a normal one of these look like?

Nothing stands out to me with that nozzle calibration you sent to support, report back when the respond.

As far as your prints, mind definitely do not look like that, might need support on this one.

How does the single nozzle print look like? Try print a multi color (just 2 color is enough) simple object like a tube. For me it doesn’t look like it’s related to dual nozzle, more like a z lead screw issue.

Try measure the distance between each artefact. If it’s a 4mm gap, your device is likely faulty and needs a replacement.

This image from a previous post shows a multicolor dual-nozzle print (on the left) compared to a single color single-nozzle print (on the right). The cube on the left has noticeable layer issues, and the cube on the right does not.

I’ll be running maintenance on the lead screws tomorrow and cleaning/applying grease and lubricant, but I don’t suspect I’ll see any improvement, as if that were the issue, I’d be seeing these issues on both double nozzle and single nozzle prints.

I’m really hoping I won’t need to send the printer back for a replacement, as I no longer have the box, and I damn near killed myself carrying the printer to its spot (3rd floor). The thing is heavy.
