I have been trying to figure this poor top layer out for hours. I have searched the forum and tried a few things. I found some setting that improved my top layer quality but now I am getting a line across the top layer. I have calibrated the flow, I have slowed the top layer speed from 200 to 100. I do not even know how to begin to fix the setting to remove the line. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Welcome to the forum.
It is hard to give a specific answer, especially with many changes in the print settings.
Can you do a simple test using the default settings for PLA Silk and 0.16mm high-quality profile - print a small parallelepiped or typical test print file (e.g. benchy)? Instead, print only one letter of the original print. To spare filament and time.
Is it your first time using this filament? Or did you succeed and now is failing? Is the top surface even, or is there any angle?
Is the nozzle clean?
Regarding the line, are you ironing? It looks like the nozzle scratched the region.
I have used this filament (Polymaker PLA - Silk) before in making a planter. The top layer was very narrow. This is a flat model with a lot of top layer.
The surface is even and there are no angles.
I did not think to clean the nozzle. But I will do that immediately.
I am not ironing. But it does look like the nozzle has scratched the various regions.
I will print the model again with just only āQā and 016mm high-quality profile.
I will post my results. Again, thank you for your help.
I reprinted the model with only the letter āQā. Dthe default setting 0.16mm High-quality present turned out great. It is a big improvement over standard 2.0mm. I have attached a phone. The time for printing was increased but the quality is more important. Would you suggest any other setting changes? Again thank you for your help.
Iām having the same exact issue, its so annoying because it was printing perfectly the other day then randomly my top layer started looking wack. Lmk if you find a solution!
