So, the new firmware for the Bambulab A1 is out — and I think we all know why some haven’t installed it and have no intention to do so.
What’s a bit annoying:
Every time the printer starts up, it shows a message saying there’s a firmware update available. You have to manually dismiss it before you can get on with anything.
Is there any way to turn off or suppress this update notification without actually installing the update?
I was also thinking about blocking the update server the printer contacts — but I assume it’s the same BambuLab server that’s used for cloud functionality, so that might cause more problems than it solves.

It happened before, when the X1Plus was launched, but with that occasion (and since then) Bambu might have learned a lesson or two (which might explain the introduction of their Connect crapware). However, given the laughable manner in which Bambu considers IT/OT “security” , I wouldn’t rule out the very likely possibility that someone from the users community might come up with a nice workaround firmware/software solution that would end Bambu’s control over our machines. I believe it’s just a matter of time and user application. And until that happens, I’ll stick with last year firmware version (August 2024) before coming up with their latest crapware, and enjoy unhindered use of the 3rd party apps and devices I have.
My first computer was in 1977… a TRS 80 Model 1… Ive been using machines of many types thru the years… hundreds of models of these, those, and others… and the biggest rule ive ever learned… is NEVER… EVER… ‘UPDATE’ a machine that is working for you…the way you want it to… EVER. but sadly, these days, many times, its forced…
Unfortunately security issues and hackers force a lot of upgrades. A system may work great but allow passwordless logins for admins for example. Or you can sled in code that escalates privileges or any number of things that once known can hand systems to script kiddies.
jch007, I too started with TRS 80 Model 1, wonderful thinking back, I am 100% with you on updates. I did an immediate update once on my computer and fried it. Took in to the computer gurus in the office and they revived it for me, then told me never, never update until at least ver X.1 or X.2 came out. So now I check what has been updated and usually it isn’t something I want or effects me, ready the post of those who has updated and now regrets it, or wait until the fixs come out.
MZip, I don’t worry to much about security issues (there is nothing on my computer worth going after) and who would want to hack my computer, they would have to be pretty bored or very desperate. Some of us are way to paranoid these days, and then some of us are way to nieve. When I was young, we could play out side until the cows came home and no one worried about us. I feel sad for my grandchildren that their life is so different today.
Sometimes it’s not going after stuff, but using other peoples machines for bitcoin mining or selling a DDOS (distributed denial of service) service by having thousands + machines loaded that can be triggered remotely. Even if there is no direct harm to you it can cause overhead or corruption on your system.
I agree with your assessment… however, i dont care about ‘security updates’ with a 3d printer… AT ALL . . I know hackers are always on the prowl… but if it means I have to constantly update my WORKING machines, I aint doing it. Its bit me in the arse 1000x … Hey new update Click here ! Then Im spending time figuring out why this aint the same and that aint the same . When a feature comes out I HAVE TO HAVE . i update.
I guess I will try and and wait it out too! It so damn annoying especially when the up date is for a printer I do not have or want to have in the future. With all of bambu’s push to be the boss of me, l will probably not ever get a Bambu printer again.
On another note, there apps and controls a re junk if you are trying to ise two different printer at the same time and Bambu studio can not handle it very well as it’s always bringing up the wrong printer😠
